Just a LITTLE late but the meeting was about the DNR presenting it’s case for keeping things the way they are water level wise and a chance for locals or those who wanted to to state thier oppinions.
It was’nt a meeting to decide anything rather an hour long infomercial basicaly.
NOTHING the DNR said made me think keeping the winter draw down in effect made sense to me. On paper perhaps but in reality many of thier points were more speculation than anything IMO and based on studies of other simular bodies of water as Kosh. In other words IMO they did’nt study Kosh in detail but relied on facts and figures of other systems in the state NONE of which even come close to the Koshkanong/Rock River system.
The change the RKLD proposed is a great compramise to the DNRs plan I think. The RKLD proposes elimination of the winter draw down and a raise of 6 to 7″ to the current summer level target. At minimum that means another 14″ of water come winter which is FINE BY ME !
I’ve heard a LOT of griping from folks who don’t like the current water level plan. Unfortunately I was VERY disapointed by the low numbers of folks who showed up at that meeting.
Guys , I’ve never been much of a get involved until this issue came along but once I saw what was at stake on one of my favorite fishin holes I felt I had to at least go to these meetings and hear what’s what for myself.
I HIGHLY encourage anyone to get involved and make your thoughts be known to the DNR. on this matter. Though it’s easy to vilanize the DNR as a big beurocracy they DO listen to what you have to say. Be it via verbal comments , E-mail or letter or whatever , your oppinion counts. In the end things may or may not work out the way you want but at least you tried.
Again I’m not pushing anything on anyone. I’m just some dude who does’nt like the way things are going on this system.
THERE ! Civics class is over. LOL
