I’m sorry fellow anglers for not reporting lately. Please except my apologize, with the screwed up deer hunting season and heavy work load it has interfered with my fishing which leads to no reports. The best I can tell you is the water is very low and the piers under the 26 bypass has been removed. The K-mart launch which is dangerous if you never launched there is still useable and the downtown launch in Fort Atkinson is still useable which is your best bet to launch to get to the fish. And the reason I say that is I still stay in contact with the river and whats going on. I make a drive by everyday before work to see who all fishing. And when you see the same boats out there day after day that only tells me one thing, there catching fish. And that’s whats been going on the last couple of day, I plan on doing some hunting and fishing this weekend and I’ll do my best to get a walleye report up. But keep in mind from my experience from last year when the first cold front comes in from now on it will be tough fishing all the why to ice up. but with the temps in the high 30 to 40 which they are now fishing is good, now I say good and what I mean by that is one day you will get your limit and the next dat you might ony get one keeper, thats fall fishing in my book on the Rock River. Which with other anglers it could be better. All and all I hope you anglers wish me luck this weekend to get my 30 pointer so I can get back to fishing before ice up. I feel bad lately since I’ve not reported lately on the Rock River walleyes and sauger activity. I need to get those deer loins in the freezer so I can get out fishing. There’s only one thing I like better than walleye fillets and that’s deer loins. But trust me fellow anglers I’ll be back

I apologize

Hey Jeff, apology accepted though I consider any hunting counter productive for any true angler that wouldn’t give up a rod/reel for a gun. I must admit I’ve been too chicken to take the boat out myself and have only tried shore fishing the last couple of months because I can’t find a fishing partner for my boat once it gets cold and I’m afraid if my fingers freeze I won’t make it back to the landing alone. The low water and no tresspassing signs sure makes shore fishing tough though. I’ve had a few short hits on small Rapalas but couldn’t land any fish. My best luck has been tossing 3/8 oz. Knuckle Ball jigs w/ Power Bait firetiger twister tails to reach the water though the fish I’ve hooked have been snagged carp. I’m going to keep on trying the shorelines over the weekend because I have nothing better to do until there’s ice. The only spots I’ve been able to find enough water along the shore and access are along the Kmart shorline and the turnout off 106 near Patten’s Marina where the creek comes in. I would try along the wall downtown Fort but I’m afraid if I actually hook a fish I wouldn’t be able to lift it 5′ to hoist it up the wall and I don’t want to drag a net along too. Bring on the ice!
December 9, 2004 at 11:21 pm #331009Glad to see you still out there. I put the boat away last week and I kick myself everynow and them. Not to much kicking since the boat need some routine maintenance I have been putting off. So Data I can relate. No one wants to fish with me when it gets cold. Is Kosh any good on the Ice. Never fished there because don’t know where to walk on and looks like a long walk where ever you go.

December 10, 2004 at 6:57 am #331067Derek good to hear from you . As far as Kosh for ice fishing if you know what your doing and have a four wheeler and stay away from the crowds you can catch some good fish. Without a four wheeler you are limit where to go and then you have to wait for the fish to come to you. Then it’s a hit or miss game. Four wheeler and power auger you can go fine the fish and move when they do. Yes I know you don’t have a four wheeler or a power auger and I don’t. So were limit to where to fish and yes you will have to walk a long way to get to some of the good spots and even then it’s hit or miss. One day you might get your limit and the next not even a flag. That’s where your friend come in handy. It’s just great sometimes to get out with friend to chat or throw a football around or even have a few drinks. Fishing it alone sucks unless you hit the day you get your limit, that’s like playing poker. As far as puting boats away, Im close to doing that but I’m going to try to fit sometime in this weekend to try the new paddle tail by B-Fish-N Tackle http://www.bfishntackle.com. Here’s a picture of some walleyes that you can look forward to catch ice fishing on Kosh or the Rock this winter or this weekend.
December 10, 2004 at 6:45 pm #331142If anyone want to ice fish Kosh. sometime and doesn’t mind an extra person let me know. I’m off from college until the 20th of January I think. I have a 2 man clam, 6 tip ups, 3 jig poles and snomobile with studs. Haven’t had the sled out in 2 yrs. do to the lack of snow but it should work fine. I only have a hand auger though, looking at upgrading if the right deal comes my way.
December 11, 2004 at 4:45 am #331268Jeff….I got a few samples of the paddletails a few weeks ago with an order of ringworms I placed. Tried them a few days later on the Wisconsin (the trip you couldnt make cuz of your quest for the 30 pointer). Had 6 eyes/sauger in the boat on the catalpa orange before my buddy even got a hit on jig/minnow combo. He quickly switched to the paddletail, which I reluctantly gave him since only got 3 of each color as samples. But he started getting bit right after switching. Ringworms worked well that day too. Got my buddy hooked on plastics, and we placed another order afterwards: his was a bunch of ringies, superdoos, and paddletails, and me, just a couple big bags of the paddletails to add to the arsenal. Also tried them both on the Rock a couple times…did ok on one of the trips. Good luck.
December 13, 2004 at 4:19 am #331450Yes I got some paddletails also, just havn’t got a chance to get out and try them because of the weather and hunting. They look like an awesome bait and Iv’e heard great things about them, check them out at http://www.bfishntackle.com.
December 13, 2004 at 5:44 pm #331526Jeff….Stay after that deer. I’m looking forward to the barbequed loin again at the L-L Quasi Jamboree. And by the way, thanks again for all the info you give on the Rock River….
December 14, 2004 at 6:17 am #331674Thanks Dave, yes I got some loins for the Quasi, I just want more. The loin isn’t as big as last year so I’ll have to add some round which is just as good but not as tender. Looking forward to seeing you again. I’m not even bringing any ice fishing gear, just plan on cooking and drinking. Make sure we talk about another fishing trip this spring.
