We got our asses kicked!!! Never had a bite!!! Hope that’s not a sign of what’s to come this year!! We fished right next to Danny Plautz in day 1 along with 50 other boats, seen 1 fish caught. Sat night we had to leave due to a family emergency so we didn’t get to fish Sunday. That figures, sounds like they started picking up. Conclusion: The Illinois River sucks! And so did we!!! LoL

It’s now open past the bypass boat landing. The launch is open. Should be open all the way to the lake tomorrow. Here we go!

Hwy 26 launch still has a sheet of fairly thick ice sticking out into the river about 50 feet. Couldn’t launch there yesterday. I launched down by the bar. 3 short saugers was all I could muster. Surprised that I wasn’t the only one out, I ran into at least 4 other boats. Ran my boat full throttle from the VFW to the lake dodging ice bergs, I broke up a ton of ice. Some guy informed me that it was no wake and that I was breaking the law. I then informed him that Rock County ordinances don’t apply to Jefferson County waters. Water temp 34-35.

Gonna give it a try later today. Gotta replace the transducer on my fish finder first and throw the TM battery in too. If anyone sees a guy with a black lab in an IDO sweater in a ProDrive swing by and say hi

Well made it out Thursday, wanted to launch at the bypass but it’s covered with 10″ of ice and snow plus there’s a big ice shelf still locking up the little corner in front of the ramp. Launched downtown, seen We-fish headed back into his office, fished primarily around the Bark, but river is open at least up to the 106 bridge. Fished 1:30 to 6pm, and fishing was slow… only managed 4 short saugers all coming in from 3-4pm, nothing before or after. Wind was kinda challenging at times and the river is up and moving pretty well… had to upsize to 3/8oz jigs, all fish caught on jig and moxie, two on a gold head jig with green flake moxie and the other two on a pink&white jig with a purple-chartruse moxie. All four hit like they meant it, don’t think I really had any other hits though… Water temp was only 36.5* to 37* and there was alot of ice coming down too. Think it’s gonna be a few days before things start really heating up, maybe middle to end of next week hopefully. At least it was a beutiful day on the river, boat ran great, and caught a few fish. Think I’m gonna hit the ice today and try for some crappies.
Tight lines everyone and have a happy Easter, maybe the easter-bunny will bring some warmer weather with him…

Thanks for the rpeort. Now I don’t feel so bad being stuck here at work today, with such nice weather out there. Oh well….better days ahead.

Got my fingers numb shore fishing at Blackhawk today. No takers. Didn’t see much action, only a three boats in the area. Lot was full with most going upstream. Looks like ice out for next weekend is iffy. Heading to DePere Sunday.

Shore fishing near Fort really paid off for me last night!!! And I battled this 54″ Flathead for 20 mins up at Blackhawk yesterday, I borrowed a 50lb scale from a fellow fisherman but the fish was too haeavy and wouldn’t read. I caught a 52 incher a few years ago on the Misissippi that weighed 63lbs, so I’m thinkin this one must have been in the mid 60’s!!! 12 eyes last night from shore over 18″!!!! All CPRed!!!
