The start of May has been a great walleye bite. Lots of walleyes are still in the river soon to be a lake bite. Everyday is a challenge with the spring weather but if you put in your time you should be rewarded. I have been on a good bite during the midday vertical jigging live bait in 11 fow with gravel bottom and water temps were at 58 soon to be in the 60’s.

Been the best during mid day for us as well. Seems like there are fewer and fewer fish in the river everyday, maybe that’s just my opinion. Time to start scouting the lake.. good luck

I wanna give a shout out and a big thank you to “The Anchor Inn” “Porky” and everyone else involved in making yesterdays annual walleye tournament a big success!!! Thanks everyone!!

As far as the fishing goes, it was great, over 250 walleyes caught, I personally watched as 99.9% of all the walleyes weighed in were released and swam away healthy. As a matter of fact the only one that I saw that was dead was in my own live well!!! He was hooked deep. Over 25 boats participated in yesterdays tournament.

    Tournament Results:

1st Place – 5 fish (18.0 lbs) Sorry my friend I forgot your name

2nd Place – 5 fish (17 lbs 15 oz) Bob and Steve Barfnick

3rd Place – 5 fish (15 lbs 11 oz) Jeff Patrick and Matt Ioder

    4th Place – 5 fish (14 lbs 12 oz) Brian and Jason

5th Place – 5 fish (14 lbs 11 oz) Jason Kline and Ben Miller LOL

The big fish of the day was caught by Steve Barfnick (7.8 lbs)

    Congrats to everyone who placed!!!

    Take Care

Finally got a chance to get out. Figured I would forego the jigging and draglines at some spots I know. Heard about the tourney and figured I would see some familiar faces. Heading out to Kosh saw Team Fintech and gave a wave.

Started out dragging deep divers set behind the boards to run 4-5 feet down in about 5-6 FOW. Had the smorgasboard of patterns going for shad raps and flicker shads to see what they wanted. (Firetiger, shad, and blue shad)

Worked some sand flats past the mouth I found a couple of years ago that have been consistent when the wind is from the south. Nothing this time.

Decided to head to the rock pile area to start my milk run. Given that this area gets hammered I stayed away from it . Not to mention I counted 18 trollers working the pile when I pulled up. So I started another milk run to an area away from the pile that I usually pick up a fish or two.

First run pics up a 12inch white bass, nice hit on boards. Realized I was running at 2.2 mph on the GPS and slowed it down. Another board was running funny so checked it to find the line heavy. Pulled in a 17inch walleye on a shallow shad rap I changed to.

A couple more white bass caught then the same shallow shad rap board takes a nose dive for an 18 inch walleye. Note taken. Changed other rods to the same set up. Game on! Continued to work the area to end up catching a 26in northern, about a dozen or so white base, 8 walleye from 14 to 20 inches. Also lost a couple decent fish far out.

Had several doubles and triples on white bass which was fun.

Ended the day with a double on walleye. Just took off a white bass and letting line out when the another board goes. Put the rod down to reel in a 20 incher. Left it in the net to finish putting the other rod out when I feel weight on the line. Another walleye hit when I was fighting the other one.

So here I am with a 20 incher in the net tangled and another 18-20 on the line. Let’s just saw my antics caught a lot of attention. Got them in the boat and was done for the day. BTW – I was immediately surrounded!

Overall a great day on the water.

The fish were very aggressive and the bite improved with more chop on the water.

Hope all the tournament guys had good luck.

Nice catch Eric and good to see you out and get a nice limit of fish. Sorry I couldn’t chat so much had the game face on and trying to stay cool , yeah right. I sure wish I was leaving the water when you did but I had to stay on water until 2:30 so the sun could punish me more. Made it through the day but im paying for it today. Way to go Eric, good to see you on fish , I remember the old days

No problem Jeff. I could tell you were focused and didn’t want to bother you too much. It was just good to see familiar faces out. It was hot out there but the fishing was good.

Too bad Z-man wasn’t out there. He has been itching to troll on Kosh.

Glad to see you got out, Derek, and had a good day to boot! I managed to get out on LaBelle for a few hours on Saturday afternoon in the heat with a friend and his son, and had some good action with about 8 eyes, few bass, couple pike and a few gills. It’s a good action lake for eyes tween 16 and 18 inches, but not for eaters, with a size limit of 20 inches. Thought about taking them out on the Rock, but high-water jigging isn’t the best scenario for novices. Will post this morning, for Lake MI perch a couple weeks back. That bite’s still going (as of Thursday, anyway, according to a friend) so there are some true jumbos to be had if you don’t mind driving down to the Waukegan area.

Finally able to get the boat out this yr,after running around for kids soccer, coaching, work ect. Took my Dad and my 9 yr Boy out for some trolling.Dad ran the boat, i set gear.and Shane was the reelman.fished 6 am till 11am. ended up with 2 legals 18 and 16 , 4 shorts, lost one big Nort at the boat, and too many whites to count. great first outing. Chart and pearl white flicker shads 25 to 35 back worked best. Said Hi to Jeff on the way in.

nice cat… and nice eye Jeff.. too bad your buddy gave it away, and I quote “said Hi to Jeff on the way in” your secret is exposed!!! No matter where the fish have been this week.. a 40 degree tempature drop will clam em up.. another one of those weeks where the men and boys will be seperated!!!! See you boys tomorrow!!! I’m very happy you didn’t gain on me last week Jeff.. VERY HAPPY!!!

Good luck tonight. I thought I might be able to join in but I took a bad step off the boat Friday. I’ll be back in surgery by the end of June to redo what they fixed 6 weeks ago There’s a chance I’ll be ready for fall fishing otherwise there’s always next year. Hope you all have a safe and enjoyable summer!

Talk about Team Work!!! Ben slams a 27.5″ 6lb 9oz eye to secure the big fish pot, and I add a 24.5″ 5lb 1oz eye and a 2lb sauger to secure 1st place.. Honestly, I didnt think we were going to catch a fish, I thought for sure Jerry was taking big fish and 1st with that 22 incher he got on his 1st drift. THANK GOD I decided to make a move!!! 3 fish weighing 14.0 lbs was the result!!! hard to believe with this drastic of a cold front that anything bit at all!!

    Current Standings through 7 Weeks

    1st – Kline/Miller 91.4 lbs

    2nd – Team Fin-Tech 59.4 lbs

    3rd – Jerry/Kermit 47.7 lbs

    Pics:

Ben with the 6.9 from tonight , and me last weeks biggest of 7 that we never got to weigh in … darn wind!!
