Dog days of summer, any ideas how to fish the lake and river in August, always been one of my hardest months to figure out?

Well I can speak about the River, You want Deep Rock, = colder water. and you want some good flow because it has more oxygen.

So the Tips of the Deeper Wingdams are always a good starting point.

    Good Luck.

Fished Friday after work and found a few white bass in the river, water temp 88. Saw couple Friday anglers that had three walleyes from fishing all day. I asked them what’s the trick and they said drink lots of water.

Haven’t been on the rock since early July. Hot weather and work are what I am blaming that for. Did have a few 25 fish days in August last year. Stayed in moving water dragging cranks and crawler harnesses with big blades faster than you would think.

Caught my first Bowfin yesterday. It put up nice fight but I didn’t want to touch it.

I returned to the river for the first time since Walleye League for a couple hours before dark yesterday and was welcomed back by a nice crappie and a 5 pound, 24″ walleye. My first canoe ‘eye! I was dragging up river by paddle. I found a technique that you can’t duplicate with a boat/motor

Nice fish, Databoy. I’m beginning to get the urge to hed back there, too, but gonna give it a few weeks. Grabbed a bite at the ancor inn with my wife on thursday night, heading back from Dubuque, and the river sure looked inviting. saw a guy workig the hwy. 59 pylons pretty hard, but no takers. I miss the Thursday night tourneys.

Got out today 6:30 – 10:30. Temps in mid 70’s and hard to find water deeper than 5 feet. Trolled cranks and harnesess in river and main lake. Nothing but a few whites and short northerns. Saw a few small ones caught by drifters in the river. Might have to get a canoe . Is the water high enough to get to blackhawk from the lake?
