River is still no wake, . Trolling bite has been good, haven’t jigged much as my kids prefer to troll. Water temp was 68 last sat am. Cranks doing the trick. Picked up 10 to 12 crappie trolling last sat, if I actually tried for them think a slip rig would do the trick. Good to hear from you Jeff
July 14, 2018 at 4:47 pm #1785796thanks for report. been awesome year actually. Only change lake bite schooling the river bite this year. first time in 20 years I have seen lake bite beat river bite so I have be quiet….lol
fishery is very heathy anglers please enjoy and send some back for seed.
July 14, 2018 at 8:30 pm #1785809Haven’t made it out for a week or so. Last time out took a friend new to trolling out. was windy so hit the calm side, and bite was on. Ended up with 5 legals and many shorts. Cranks still doing the trick for me. 2 to 2.5 mph. 3rd year I’ve owned this boat, and it has never been in any other place but rock river/kosh.
July 17, 2018 at 6:41 am #1786088It’s good to see this thread coming back to life with river rat posts. I only hit the Rock a couple times this spring, but generally make it out weekly in the fall, my favorite time out there. Summers just seem to get way too busy….guess I should un-retire, go back to work, and have more time to fish. LOL.
July 30, 2018 at 3:46 pm #1788380I can agree the bite in the river never got started for me either since pre spawn. The weather conditions never cooperated when I had time to fish so I reverted to trolling too with the same results as Kelly pulling cranks. Pictured are a couple eaters from this month. Early July we were getting a few jumbo perch with fish like these, by mid month we were pulling in 5-10 lb catfish regularly, now the pike have been the aggressors but still getting a few walleye each time out.

August 2, 2018 at 8:11 pm #1789278Slowed down a lot since water levels went down. Bugs have been terrible. few walleyes here and there, but more norts and sheeps. Time to get my tree stands set, and get ready to fish sept. Been trolling cranks still with my son . Shallow shad raps been better than flickers. 32 to 39 feet back. Usual suspects far as color goes. Nice to see some fellow river rats out.
August 18, 2018 at 10:54 pm #1792358About time to head back out. Gave myself a break from the system due to the stinky water and even stinkier Illinois people. Last time I was out I spent most of my time just watching boat launch fails and would be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy it. River has been SLOW for me. Kelly is correct with the shallow shads my depths varied though. Hopefully boat traffic starts slowing down and the river bite picks up. Lake Michigan trolling has been fun but I miss my Gravel Lizards.
August 18, 2018 at 11:01 pm #1792359Size wise this has been the most productive year I’ve ever had on the system. Hopefully they show up in the rivers in the fall. Yes. They are all still swimming. Always remember that the best fisherman are unfortunately the best liars

September 9, 2018 at 10:33 am #1796409Nice to hear from you Jeff, yep the fish are in the lake. I actually saw you and your new boat for the first time a couple weeks ago when we were zooming back from the lake but by the time I recognized it was you we were way past you. Still catching fish out there, never without keepers every time out and we fished a lot. We have moved off the rocks a month or so ago and keep finding fish, getting closer to Blackhawk Is now, hopefully they will be in the river again soon -it’s a pain when we have to launch at the bypass a putt putt all the way back from Kosh especially since we loose light so much earlier now.
September 9, 2018 at 6:26 pm #1796465Was out today. Hit the lake early, but that NE wind was kicking up hard. Headed back to the towards river, decided to troll the calm side on the lake instead. Worked out well. Many eyes today.6 legal, with 2 over 22 inches, along with 6 perch, quite a few norts, and even some gills. Still swimming, All on cranks. The fish insisted on salmo today. Hit most flavors I used. Great day to be out, and only 1 boat near me all day. Yes that slow ride to and from the bypass is a pain.
September 19, 2018 at 3:46 pm #1798445Shhh on the Salmo’s, they got most of our fish trolling. I’m not posting our favorite size, type or color though, I’ll save that info for when i next see you. Finally got walleye in the river yesterday also had a triple on big cats, boating two. I horsed the biggest one until it snapped my line, didn’t want to fight a cat for 30 min when walleye were biting.
October 5, 2018 at 8:33 pm #1801773careful with Eric
what we have shared those special winning years r special.. share only with anglers that help u in return.. thanks for update Gregg.. call meOctober 12, 2018 at 9:52 am #1803221Hi Jeff, check your messages for my new phone number. Haven’t shared river secrets. I’ve been in the middle of the lake 99% of the times out this year. Getting occasional bonus perch but just 1-3 each time out. Never could get them consistently but they’re all jumbo when we do get one.
October 15, 2018 at 8:09 pm #1803953I call it a pattern, was getting quite e few perch last time out.Crappie and perch. Its tree stand time now.
October 16, 2018 at 5:42 pm #1804155Kelly, we’re you getting your boat ready to put away for the year when I drove by or just cleaning it up from catching fish? That’s a nice looking boat.
October 16, 2018 at 8:50 pm #1804210Thanks Greg, That thing works great for fishing rock/kosh. Winterizing the engine, ready to put away(love that e-tec). If I get a deer early, I will pull it back out, Or if it stay warm thru Nov. Will make sure to get you out in it next yr. I don’t plan much in advance, just decide night before im going. Stop by we can trade trolling bite notes, learned a few things this yr.
October 18, 2018 at 3:32 pm #1804577Glad to see a few posts on this thread. Go figure, when I decide to give the rock fall bite a shot the river is high. At least is means the system won’t be assaulted like last year. Gotta get back on this system…do miss the fishing..just not the crowds.
Be well and safe all.
Derek
October 18, 2018 at 9:32 pm #1804633Good to hear from your Derek. Crowds haven’t been bad this year(after season opens in may), at least for me. I troll a lot, and seem to find fish away from the known places.
