minnow supply shortage

Just thought I would alert you to a shortage in the minnow supply. Many of the lakes which provide our minnows are experiencing oxygen depletion (also known as winter kill) which will last until the ice is gone. One example I heard is of a lake that usually produces 500 gallons of minnows in a trapping, and is now producing less than 10 gallons.
We were able to get minnows today with the exception of shiners, but my bait supplier is not overly optimistic about the next few weeks.
It is very possible that this shortage will affect a very wide area, but we will work with our suppliers to make every effort to have minnows available.

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Time to get the ringworms and K-tails out for the walleyes and saugers and the tube jigs for the crappies. More than one way to catch fish. Got lots of plastics to take up the slack in minnows Mike?
    Thanks, Bill

Hmmmmmmm. Lets see here. We all need to buy licenses to continue to fish which means we will be heading to the bait shops to renew. Minnows are nowhere to be found. Could it be that there is a hefty supply of ice fishing artificals available that need to be sold off to make room for the open water stuff?

Sounds kinda like the gasoline distributors right before Memorial Day…. You know……”We are expecting heavy demand for gas Memorial Weekend this year but ever since that California refinary fire in ’89 we have had trouble catching up on the supply side.” Yah…Right!!!!!!

Just Joshing….. I’ll be in for my license before the end of the week.

I can vouch for Mikes honesty and for his concern for his fellow fisherman so I know he will do his best to get all the minnows he can.
    Thanks, Bill
