I took a little tour to Red Wing this morning. The fishing was not too hot. The largest fish I saw today was a sturgeon of about 50 inches, taken from yhe scour hole at the dam. I managed eight fish again with only two in the keeper range….all sauger. Lots of small fish being taken. I used plastic, but minnows were equally productive from what I saw. The water is up a tad from last week and some of the clarity is gone. Still, it was nice to be on the water.

Some people live such a rough life and get to fish all the time. And when they catch 800% more fish than I did today [didn’t get to fish] they complain. I must of got out of bed on the wrong side in life as I seem to work more than I fish. Maybe I need to go back to bed and try getting out the other side and see what happens. Oh, I forgot. Theres a wall there. Oh well, you keep fishin and keep givin me those fishing reports so someday when I get my life figured out I’ll know how to catch them fish too. I hear rumors that theres some guy named Mike who fishes when he want to also. Gee, maybe I should of been a fish so I could spend more time on or in the water. Anyway, you’re Tom, I’m jealous, glad to meet you.

    Thanks, Bill

Wish I could say now. Spent the day until 2:00 at home with this darn back. It woke me up at 3:00 am in alot of pain. Seems like I can go a few days not too bad then wam it lets me have it. Been very carefull too. Its getting very hard to stay off the water / ice but I don’t want to be missing any open water time this year so I behave. Thanks, Bill

Have to agree Tom, real slow bite. Was there Wen. and had about same results. Lot of short hits. Feel them on for awhile and then let go. There was one boat anchored on a wing dam and they were having a ball catching cats. Seen one they had that was a little over 40inches. Going to try and hit Alma today or tomorrow. Hopefully with the warm temps. and wind the ice will go out of Dresback Its a shorter run for me and the last few years I’ve had real good luck there in fall and spring. Good luck

With Tom, Mike and I out catching crappies this spring I was going to suggest we let Jake watch the forum for us BUT I think I’d like to take him along and use him for bait. He looks like something crappies would love to eat.
    What do you guys think?
    Thanks, Bill

wait a second……..you guys were going crappie fishin without me????

well fine…..be that way…….but if you see a overly hyper purple fuzzy lookin guy in a brand new 16′ crestliner out there on the zum pullin in 15″ craps on every cast, don’t bother coming over to ask what the secret bait is…….

Well, let’s see – Jake for bait? Given his reputation for not being able to connect with crappies, I suspect we may want to think that through a little better!
Maybe he can be taught a few secrets???

    Good Fishing,

BINGO !!! I have the answer. Since Jake can’t catch crappies maybe we could use him for Muskie bait. I have have of Muskies eating weird looking things before so what do you guys think?
    Thanks, Bill

Outfit??? I thought that was the real him without his clothes on. You are right about the other fisherman not wanting to be around us. If this weather keeps up spring will be here faster than normal. Drove out to Hooked On Fishing today and picked up a few things and got my new licences for 2004 and shot the breeze with Mike Fischer [custom rod making geru] as Mike Smith was gone fishin again. The Doc told him to not work around bait as of the risk of getting an infection so Mike doesn’t work around bait he goes fishing with it instead. Theres something here I just don’t understand other than I know Mike is a fishing addict like the rest of us. Some kids just never grow up and mind. [most of us don’t when it comes to fishin].
    Thanks, Bill
