I was out on the Zumbro today and found things to be a bit mixed up. Lots of the old structure is now gone and in some places we have new to learn. I saw one large “island” of cat-tails slowly drifting towards the dam, but other than some random logs not much in the line of hazrdous trash on the water.
The fish were scattered yet as best as I could make out. Docks with the outside posts in deeper water seemed good for sunfish, but even then only a couple in the keeper range were caught and returned to the water. Crappies? They eluded us.
Plastics worked with or without a waxie. Light colors, dark colors…they all took some fish. The real key seemed to be the deep water near where the fish were holding in shallower stuff. This is a typical fall pattern.
We saw some bass action today too with a couple LM hitting the boat floor and one super nice smallie. All of the bass were along quite shallow water with rocky bottom. All hit 1/32 jigs with a Culprit Paddletail, junebug/chartreuse tail.
It was anice day to be out. The wind of course got to be a factor, but who can complain given this is mid-October.
