What can you guys tell me about West Newton?
A guy I know said it was a good place to go to get the boat in the water. He said it would be less sandbar camping traffic than the Wabasha area. Is the fishing as good down there?
    Thanks

my family had a cabin and has now built a house just above the alma damn on peterson lake and i think you will run into just as much “sand bar traffic” below the damn near west newton as you will up stream mostly because the only cove left for camping from red wing to winona is just down from the west newton landing as for the fishing it can be good on both sides so i think you go to where you are confident catching fish or go and try something new witch ever you are feeling like that day good luck!!

There are two landings in the W. Newton area. What size boat do you have? You can get out with a larger boat at the older one, but…. you might polish the prop and skeg a bit. The new one is steep. Eric, where are they pumping the sand from? I see they are grubbing where the old Minnesota cove was at.

They are dredging out on the channel in front of the new landing. The pipe runs right thru the parking area and driveway I think….I didn’t stick around the other day to look.
