ice fishing for the first time in his life.I took him to Lake Zumbro today. The picture is his fist fish caught.

The weather was perfect for a first timer.I drilled 25-30 holes looking for anything he could sink a hook into.It was too nice to be sitting in a shack so we hole hopped all morning.

Found alot sniffers but it took awhile for me to find active feeding fish,

Finaly my Marcum LX5 did its magic and I found a school of active perch, not big by any means, but they were plentifull and hitting our diamond jig with a red spike. If you jigged it they would just sniff it ,let it sit a few seconds and lift it about 2″ real slow and they would inhale it .

It was like watching a child icefishing for the first time, He had a blast and is now hooked on it,asking several times on the way home “when can we go again”.I replied “anytime and but dont let this weather spoil you ,for its usually ALOT colder”, He said “I’m ready”.

I let him use one of my custom made 24″UL shack rods and when we got home I gave it to him. I think I found a new icefishing partner.

Next trip we go for bigger fish,Hopfully some big bulls.

Thanks for a fun morning my friend

I knew it was a battle for you and thought I’d heard that you had an option. Good luck in your recovery Doug. Its a bear to be in pain while trying to fish.

Speaking of recovery.. How’s your leg doing Tom? My hand is still numb since surgery but improving according to the Doc. Still doesn’t move correctly. Been 9 months now for me.

Sharing your love for fishing with someone else will have a great positive affect in that persons life. Fishing is something that he will want to share with someone else too because it becomes a part of us that we want others to enjoy as much as we do.
    Thanks, Bill
