Foster Arends Lake in Rochester has a few springs in it so you must be carefull. A person fell part way through the ice that was 12 inches thick on the north side of the lake on Sat. He must of walked across a weak spot or a thinned spot. He opened up a 2 foot hole when one leg fell through and was very lucky as he was able to get out of the hole ok. The area was quite aways from shore too. My guess it was where there is a feeder spring there as there are several in that lake. The Rochester Fire Dept. was called to Foster Arends Lake today, Sunday, as a 2 foot by 6 foot hole was discovered. This area was approx. a couple hundred feet out from the landing in the northeast part of the lake and down approx. 75 feet south from the north shoreline. The fire dept. marked off the area marking it to stay away from there. The area in front of the swimming beach is always dangerous ice too as there are springs there too. This just goes to show that no ice is safe ice so please always be carefull, fish with a friend, carry ice picks, and have a rope handy. Even 12 inches of ice isn’t always safe so please be carefull. Thanks, Bill
