Rochester Area Waters Fishing Update

The warmer temps [ ] and winds has open up the shorelines at Foster Arends lake and there were alot of anglers taking advantange of it this weekend. In a manner of two hour Nate and I saw the open water areas double its size because the winds had kicked up and did a job on the ice. Fishing was slow but some bluegills were caught with waxies on a hook below a bobber by Nate.

Since we can’t get a boat on Lake Zumbro yet Nate and I also did some shore fishing on the Zumbro River. We both had a very bad case of ”open water fishing pox” that we just had to try to cure so we went and did some ”fishing for whatever was biting” style fishing. The 1st pic is a sucker Nate caught and the 2nd pic is of a weird looking sucker that I caught. The Zumbro River is a great place to fish with many different kinds of fish that could end up on the end of your line. It sure felt good to wet a line in open water for a change. After a long cold winter we didn’t care what was biting. We haven’t fished for ”anything that will bite” for years and we had alot of fun fishing for whatever would hit the bait. A splitshot and hook with HOF nightcrawlers did the job.
    Thanks, Bill

Me and my brother have had some luck down by Silver Lake lately. Slip sinker with a 2″ piece of crawler. That’s great to hear that Foster’s is opening, been wanting to get down there with a fly rod soon. Last Sunday it was iced shore to shore. Love this weather!

Thanks for the update and pics Paul. Keep em coming guys as we ALL have cabin fever / fishing pox and NEED to know where theres open water and fish biting. You don’t need to give away your spot, I’m not asking for that, just an update on how your fishing was and what were you catching fish on. This way we ALL learn something and also learn about different areas where we can open water fish.
    Thanks, Bill

I tried for some trout out at Foster’s this evening with the fly rod. No one was getting anything while the wind was going, but once it died down they started biting. I got two rainbows, and had two others break off; kinda forgot how weak that tippet is. They were all around 12″. Felt good to have them jumping and racing around again.
