This thread is for people to report ice conditions on the Rochester area lakes and rivers. Hopefully this thread will help to keep people safe from bad ice, help you know which bodies of water are safe so you may catch some fish on the ice still, and anyone can report their findings here.
    Thanks, Bill

The first barge has gone through Lake Pepin so in a couple days it should be ICE FREE.

The ramp is open at Fishermans Inn on Lake Zumbro and at the Ponderosa too but there is still some ice between the two places. Won’t be long and the only ice I will see is the ice in my glass of caffeine free diet pepsi.

    Thanks, Bill

You could try Fishermans, but an 18’ers trailer would drop off the apron I think. You guys with lager boats need to be aware of very shallow water in the large eddy area in front of Fishermans….only a couple feet deep right now in some places.

I was out and fished from some private property this morning and the water temps have gone backwards….that after a turn-over happened a week ago. The fishing is not nice right now. I had one hit. That wind felt like it was blowing off the artic circle.

Last fall when the water was low guys in bass boats were putting in at Fishermans Inn using the area of the ramp thats the farthest from the Fisherman Inn’s building [farthest away from the eating place building] . But be carefull if you do because there is a sharp drop off at the end of the concrete ramp. When water is low you need to back in further than normal which puts you closer to the drop off. I don’t know if the drop off covers the whole ramp or not but becarefull. When the water comes up it will be alot more safe to put a big boat in. I don’t know just how long it will take to raise the water up to normal but it is something like a foot and a half down right now.
    Thanks, Bill

It had been down about 1.6 feet. They beging the raising process on Friday and project that the water will take a week to attain normal pool levels.
