With the lake being drawn down 2 1/2 feet already the Ponderosa boat ramp is done being used this year unless you can carry your boat up over the hump just past the hole created by boats powering up onto trailers as there was only about 2 inches of water over that spot. The ramp at Sandy Point has ”no water at all” but the ramp at Fishermans Inn is still being used. The ramp there has a portion of it blocked off to be repaired but on each side of that blocked off area you will find open spots to launch. But I need to warn about something here. The wider spot of the ramp is the side with the drop off at the end of the ramp. I did put my jon boat in on that side today [Sunday Nov 2nd] but didn’t back very far down as I didn’t know how much ramp I had going into the water. When I took out I talked to a few bassin friends who had just taken their bass boats out and Brad said that the narrower part of the ramp [on the dam direction side of that wide Fishermans Inn ramp] had a more gradual slope to it so I took out on that portion of the ramp. The water level this year is being drawn down farther than it normally is in order for there to be an survey done by air [airplane] I’m told for the dredging project. If you cross the bridge by Sandy Point you can see about 50 feet of river bottom [mud] in front of the new townhomes that were built there, you will see the same in front of the Sandy Point boat ramp, and if you look in the other direction down river towards Fisherman’s Inn you will see a huge very long mud island [lake bottom] in the middle of the river where there is ”no water.” The water has been drawn down about 2 1/2 feet so far and I have heard it may go down another foot yet even. So, yes you can get on the lake at Fishermans Inn, but please be carefull at the ramp. The weather was fantastic out there today but the bite was found to be slower than it was on last Wednesday for me. But thats fishing. Seems like each day is different but I did only fish one spot today. I started out in 14 ft of water and not a bite. I worked my way out to 18 ft of water and found fish suspended 8-9 feet down [at least thats where my Mimi-mite jig was set. I had a waxie added to the jig and tightlined the jig with a split shot about 6-8 inches above the jig. I tried different depths by starting at the bottom and worked my jig up the water column. Weather was great today and it sure made me wish we had several more months of nice weather before winter gets here but unfortunately thats not going to happen. Sounds like a couple of really nice days next week and then its going to get pretty cold and stay that way. You can blame that cold on 3 things: [1] I picked myself up a In-Fisherman Ice Fishing Guide AND made the big mistake of getting HOF one too and even though I told him not to let it go to his head I really believe hes been praying for ice, [2] Brad Gravenhoff’s little brother bought himself a really nice lookin bass boat that he and brad were out fishing in today, 200 hundred horses on that baby, nice boat. and [3] my front trolling motor on my bigger boat has been acting up so I bit the bullet and told Smittys to order me a new one yesterday so it will be in next week so of course winter is going to come quicker this year. I tend to have a habit of buying things in the fall which makes it easier to pay for them cause I don’t have the gas expense in the winter like I do the rest of the year but really I think HOF is the biggest one behind the cold stuff comin cause he LOVES ice fishing so much. And besides, we have to blame winter coming on someone. lol.
Thanks, Bill
ps. Mike I did put these babies and the rest back for you to catch this winter. Gotta love it when they are this wide, thick and heavy.
