the rivers and streams are running clear and low. trout fishing is good, try mixing it up a little this time of year a good choice on the long rod would be terrestrials: like ants, beetles, buggers, things like that. bright spinners of smaller size have also produced. Pike are being found in many rivers: topwater raps, or plastics can trigger explosive strikes. Smallies approaching the 20″ mark have been caught on live bait, and raps in the rivers that hold them. some big Largies have moved down to 8-9fow: shakey tail setup and fish those sandy bottoms or topwater frogs in the slop have produced some nice fish also. The panfish/crappie bite has been reported slow, try moving a few feet out from your normal spots and fishing 2 -3′ deeper than normal with a plastic that has good action or live minnow. The rough fishing is always excellent down here, lots of BIG carp being caught mostly on corn. Channel cat bite is steady, spawn is mostly over, and cut bait has produced. as suggested in other threads, now is the time to use a little stink bait for searching. Fly fishing for pike, and bass has been producing fish as well, a leech or clouser pattern along weed edges is the ticket. try poppers or other topwaters to get the bass slammin’ near dark. If nothing else just wander down to the closest river and throw a crawler out, you may be surprised what species you reel in!
