Nate Cadwell, his daughter Mckenzie [2 1/2 years old] and I fished the Lake Zumbro 4th of July Holiday Tournament this morning that was put on by Rick Cordie. It was a great morning to be on the lake. Very nice weather, pretty calm for a Saturday, and the fishing was fun. Nothing better than casting out a jig and helping Mckenzie hold the rod while she cranked in fish. She loved it and so did Dad and grandpa when we watched her. She sure loves fishing. The bite was tough compared to what it was awhile back ago but there are fish to be caught and willing to be caught. Last Thursday night it was the gills that were harder to find and today it was the crappies who were harder to find than the gills were. Just goes to show that each day can be different. Our crappies were all caught on Mini-mite jigs while most of the gills wanted a waxie added to the jig. The crappies and also the gills we caught were close to wood. Rick and I think it was his daughter and friend won the tournament with 4.9 lbs, while we came in 2nd with 4.4 lbs. A sheephead won the big multispieces honors with a sucker fish coming in second. Each day is an educational day as we all learn something new about a body of water when fishing it. Alot of the gills were done spawning but we did find a some that were in the middle of it still. I hope you get a chance to get out fishing this weekend and if you do please feel free to share on how you did. We ALL learn from each others sharing. Have a very happy 4th of July weekend everyone.
Thanks, Bill
