My new wife and I decided to brave the cold and hit one of my favorite panfish spots. We were skeptical about the crappies but if you pick through the sunfish you can get some nice ones. It started out we took my wife’s land rover down there, I picked my shack up at my dad’s house and of course it didn’t fit in back. So we had to hold it with the back hatch open. That lasted until I backed up and the minnows and poles slipped out the back. After a nice walk out to the prime fishiing spot, we were greated by a beautiful bald eagle. My dad had rigged up some redneck reel weeds from some hobbie store vines. Well as you can see they didn’t hurt things! We got set up and dropped our lines down, right away come two big crappies came through the hole. No luck with those! We saw a few more but just couldn’t seem to haul them in. Mandi then caught the giant pumokinseed which I just noticed has a mouth more like a bass rather than it a sunfish. Anyway, we got a few nice bulls to bite missed a few big ones. I saw one that I would have put on the wall. But he came in, got the side of the jig and was gone, while I’m staring at him swim away I’m thinking man, that is a giant. We were out there for about 4 hours and brought a nice meal home. All in all I had a great day with my wife. Mandi was using a teardrop with a waxie and a pink and white rat finke with a waxie. I had a purple rat finke with a waxie.
