I couldn’t believe it either. I had to see them for myself. Very nice. Smooth reel and nice rod. Ended up bringing one home too. Like I need another ice combo.

But it will make an awesome Christmas present.

Rumor has it that Mike has brought in a bunch of new goodies too. Haven’t had a chance to get out there yet and check out the latest bunch of goodies but I hear theres some great ice fishin goodies that a couple guys field tested the past couple years on the ice that caught alot of fish while others didn’t. Mike, CT, Tyler….care to share the secret?

    Thanks, Bill

Not sure where to start Bill, but I will say the store is bulging at the seams. We have received good selections of Frostee jigging spoons, Genz Worms, Diamond jigs, Nuggies, and the Reel Weeds are back in stock. Believe it or not, more is on the way yet!

p.s. We also have a fresh supply of B-Fish-N plastics – ringworms, k-grubs, paddletails!!!

Mike’s supply of Diamond jigs and nuggies is the BEST of any within many miles. He has every color of both and the diamond jigs are there in three of the best sizes. Nuggies are the hottest winter plastic around when the bite is on and Mike can offer a bunch of tips on how to get started with them.

HOF has the “Your Bobbers Down” loop-end spring bobber which installs easily on any rod. If anyone has a problem getting one of these installed HOF can help with it.

One of the little know things that HOF has to offer that is free is a Weds morning gathering of local anglers who share their secrets and who have always got tid-bits of wisdom to learn from. These guys show up anywhere from 6:30 to 7 on Weds’s and hang around until about 8.

Another one of the benefits to HOF is the hands on” atmosphere of the store. Unless a package of anything is sealed, people are welcomed to toss a piece of whatever in the hand and feel it, see how it behaves out of the package. Another aspect is that a person doesn’t have to buy a 5 pack color assortment of something to get the one color he wants, like in the big package stores. Mini Mites come to mind here and yes, they are a good winter jig too.

From the novice to the seasoned angler, HOF has what it takes to be successful all year long.

It is said that good things come in small packages…..HOF is the epitome of the statement.

Can you explain what Nuggies are? I hear they are the hottest thing going for ice fishing. I’ve never seen them but my ears are wide open.
    Thanks, Bill

They are a plastic about an inch long that consits of a small ball, maybe 1/4″ with a tail coming off it. This tail is hyper active. The plastic used in these is very supple and will not harden in the chill of winter weather or water. I have used them on the open ice at 15-18 degrees with no bad experiences or cold related tear-offs.

My best luch has been with the bubblegum, white, and glow colors, but all of the many colors have given me fish over the last couple years.

These are not what you would want to refer to as “finesse” plastics, but rather you would want to use them when the fish are at least in a neutral mood.I prefer to fish the nuggies on a vertical jig or jigging spoon. The Frostee jigging spoon by Lindy, the Scenic Go Devil in 1/16 ounce are both easily employed with the nuggie while my pet happens to be the 1/32 ounce JBLures Gem-N-Eye….glow red or glow green.

There are many horizontal jig minnow-shaped plastics that work very well on suspended, feeding fish, but the nuggie brings the vertical jig a companion plastic that is in many instances the cat’s meow of all winter bait combinations.

How about a pic of the different colors of Nuggies? [fussy…aren’t I? ]

ps. also rumor has it that theres some other neat items brought in for ice fishing. Care to share pics of those items and explain what they are? [hint hint] I’ve been so darn busy the past couple weeks I haven’t had a chance to stop in to check these things out. This way I will know what I’m looking for and won’t miss anything when I get in there.

Theres is so much tackle in stores today that a person just doesn’t know what will work the best. And thats exactly why I prefer to shop at HOF because they carry the stuff that area anglers have proved to catch fish in our areas bodies of water. If I sometimes sound like a broken record I’m sorry but why not buy what works? It just makes sense to me. Mike [HOF] fishes ALOT on the waters in our area and gets feedback from alot of anglers who fish our waters so to me it makes sense to shop there cause I know what I buy will work and catch me fish. Its a ”one stop shop” that also includes the latest up to date fishing information.
    Thanks, Bill

I have been hearing reports on how great the rod & reel combos are to fish with. They even work great for catching trout in Foster Arends lake.
    Thanks, Bill

That’s right Bill, they do work fantastic. I was on Fosters in some pretty cold conditions. That combo was catchin fish. I was landing some trout in the 15+ inch range very easily. The rod was strong and loaded up very nice for a good hook set and when they ran, the drag on that Okuma reel fed out line very smooth. 5 stars (out of 5) rating.

One thing I keep forgetting to pick up is Nuggies everytime I go out there. Must be getting close to the age of HOF and CT. What all colors do they come in Mike?
