Everyone who knows me knows that I LOVE open water boat fishing. Nothing beats being in the boat on open water in the fresh air catching fish. But there comes a time when we, yes even I, have to consider the fact that theres another season sneaking up on us anglers thats much colder and changes our soft water into hard water. Rumors have been circulating that HOF has gotten in some new ice fishing goodies that I just had to see for myself if the rumors were true. One of the items I found was the Frabil Panfish Popper rods [they come with the spring already inserted into the end of the rod] which provide the utmost sensitivity for light biters and only 10.99 too. I even found some short ice hole scrappers. These are the perfect length for when you are sitting in your ice shack or on a bucket for scopping out the ice particles from your hole for only 1.99 too. Just so I don’t spoil all your fun by telling you everything I’ll stop right here so you can discover some more goodies on your own. But…oh ya….I just have to drop a hint here. Mike will be getting in some fantastic deals in this coming week that are just too good to be true. What he showed me is the price on a couple items and what he was going to sell them for as a combo…well I couldn’t believe my ears. He is mass buying somethings so he could get unbelievable pricing and will sell them to all of us at less than what it normally cost to buy just part of it. But I better stop here before Mike shoots me for giving away too many hints. Be sure to stop in to HOF midweek to see an unbelievable deal for yourself. You will be very glad you did.
    Thanks, Bill

Ok….so I have a problem of just can’t stop talking when I’m on to some hot stuff. Heres another hot tip for all you ice fishing anglers who need a new auger this year. Strikemaster has some awesome ice augers for drilling your holes so you can get into the fishes world under the ice. Check them out, whether it be a gas auger, electric auger, or a new Lazer hand auger. You will find a ”Fire In Your Hole.”
    Thanks, Bill

OK Bill, time to release the details….

The reel is an Okuma UL10 (a true ultra-light), 3 ball bearing, computer balanced handle, machine cut anodized aluminum spool, helical cut brass pinion gear, multi-disc felt and stainless steel drag washers, oversized ceramic line roller, selective silent anti-reverse, left/right hand retrieve, 4.4:1 gear ratio, weighs 6.1 oz.
The rod is an Okuma Celilo graphite ice rod, cork handle, alloy guides, 24″ medium light or 28″ light.

Now maybe the best part – Regular price for this combo is $35.99 – We are selling these at just $14.99!!!! You won’t find this great deal anywhere else.

I happened to stop just as Mike was popping a box open and got a first hand look at them.

The reels are Okumas and very smoooooooth. The adjustment for the drag was very sensitive….it took a half dozen clicks to really “feel” any additional tension and as the tension increased I could not feel any binding at all. These are truely 2 pound test reels.

The rods I saw were in two different lengths and actions, but both were ideal weights for panfishing. The quality of those rods was as good if not better than one of the rods with a spring attached and come in a tube that cost 60 bucks! And at the price which these Okumas are being offered, the addition of a spring would be very affordable. Certainly though, these rods are excellent as is.

What this really shows is that Mike goes out of his way to find tackle that is “fitting” for the local area at a very affordable price. And while I was putting my hands on a few of the rods he had received, Mike was putting out some more Lindy Tackle display boxes filled with even more quality tackle.

Nobody is more in tune to ice fishing than Mike Smith and his store reflects the years of involvement with the sport. This is all very specific tackle to this area, not something easily found in the larger stores.

I have to confess that I bought two [different lengths] Okuma rod and reel outfits. At that price you can’t afford not to. I also bought 3 of the popper rods in different lengths. The next time out there I left with some lures to catch the fish on this winter. I’m almost fully equiped for icing some fish this winter. Are you? A stop at HOF and you will be.
    Thanks, Bill
