Not much of a panfisherman during the summer months (kinda small and kinda boring for my taste)….but grandma wanted fresh fish for her 80th birthday, so off to the river I went with a can of worms and a little dinky rod.

I headed to a spot I haven’t fished since my college days …..it consisted of main channel rip rap and some man-made structure. Over the course of 1 1/2hrs I was able to boat just over 1 million sunfish (estimate) and 2 crappies around 11″…..also caught 3 decent smallies, a largie, and a sheepie. I quit when I had more little fish in the bucket than I wanted to clean by myself.

The secret technique was an itty bitty jig tipped with a small piece of crawler…..no bobber, because bobbers are for childern and old people

That’s my report and I’m stickin to it.

i thought bobbers were for kids and old folk too, untill i fished bigstone lake on the s. dakota side, and cought some nice fat wallys!!! then went to pickerel lake, and got sone super nice crappies!!! bobber fishing can be boring, so throw one out and start casting cranks!! just like ice fishing, you got your deadstick- and your jig for something to do!
