The easier spawn time fishing is over but there are still fish to be caught. They aren’t as shallow as they were in spring much of the time but all aren’t as deep as everyone thinks also.

We have found fish in different areas of the lake which sorta goes against what we are use to hearing.

Fish have caught fish real close to shore that were feeding on minnows up tight to the shoreline and or wood and also fish that were out on flats in the lake.

It seems that most of the fish are going through the stages of moving from the shoreline spawning and feeding areas out to the flats. Some will go deeper and spend the summer months there and some will choose to stay on the flats where there are mixed wood/and or rock on the bottom.

    Thanks, Bill

[note the word ”most” above in places as fish have been caught in all three areas. This year we have seen some back and forth changing water clarity, back and forth warmer to cooler weather temps, and some confusing fish patterns throughout the spring and early summer periods. If you don’t find fish in the depths you are fishing don’t be afraid to check out the other water depths too. The fish aren’t always where we think they should be according to the time of year. Especially this year.

The reports I’m hearing are telling me that the crappies, bluegills and smaller bass are still hitting as good as they were right before I had my surgery so I’ll share a few things.

Casting mini-mite jigs towards shore along with deep jigging the mini-mites around docks with deep water produced alot of smaller, but fun, bass. Great way to keep kids happy.

Bluegills are still hitting mini-mites I’m hearing like they were earlier this past week.

Also I have been assured that the walleyes are still hitting crankbaits on Lake Pepin being trolled still like they were earlier this past week. There are some nice eater sized eyes to be caught.

[Pictured is my oldest grandaughter Brianna who loves to get out fishing with me. She will have her license next year which means we can meet at the river for for some walleye & Sauger catchin more often. Be sure to share your love for fishing with kids by take them fishing. ]
