Rain or Shine Lake Zumbro Fishing Is FUN
Tuesday a cold front arrived along with some rain that evening but plans of fishing Lake Zumbro were still going to happen. Fishing is fun and no matter what Mother Nature does this time of year diehard fishermen still hit the water to fish [as long as there isn’t any lightening]. And that we did.
My grandson Mitchell Severson age 7 wanted to go fishing and we weren’t going to let the wind, cold and later rain stop our plans. When we arrived at the boat launch we talked to a couple guys who were taking their boat out. They said the fishing was tough and all they caught was a small gil and a northern. That told us we had our work cut out for us.
The first place we tried failed to produce any fish [only rain] so we moved to another spot to try and was rewarded with one fish. After trying different depths and still only the one fish we moved to an area with a rocky shoreline, downed wood and deep water very near by and started catching bluegills. The fish weren’t big but this was Mitchells first time out this year and he was excited to be catching fish and to him that mean’t his pic would be in a fishing report on IDA. He was excited.
The gills that we caught were all very close to shore at this last spot. And I mean VERY close to shore. A Mini-Mite jig with a waxie under a float was what technique that we used. You had to watch the float carefully as they were light biters. The colors that took fish were purple and also pink. The forecast looks pretty good Wednesday through Sunday which should mean good fishing again so be sure and get out on the water and start setting the hook.
Thanks, Bill
