Made my maiden open water voyage to the backwaters around the Wabasha/Kellogg area. Tried several areas along the dike road before I found some actice fish. Ended up with steady action on the gills with a few jumbo perch and crappies mixed in. Ice jigs were the ticket. Orange Marmooska with purple plastic took the nicest fish.

Checked out West Newton and Wilcox also. Caught a few at Wilcox but Newton was dead. Biggest gill of the day went 9″ most of the crappies were 6-10″. Couple of the perch were pushing 12″. All released as I didnt feel like cleaning anything.

Also would like to mention the panfish combo I picked up at HOF on my way worked fabulous. Really like the Okuma real. Thanks Mike for the rig and tips

Good to hear you got into some fish! That UL combo you got is a real sweet set-up, 10 BB Okuma UL reel and IM6 Graphite UL rod – only $49.99! That is one of our anniversary specials.

How long is that rod Mike? I’m looking for a longer ul for panfish.
