MOST areas of the mississippi river are opening up. The main channel is open with not all that much floating ice anymore. The bacwaters with some current are all wide open, and even the backwater bays are shrinking their ice. I can see the difference in how much open water is between the shore and ice every couple hours on a very shallow area by my house. Its almost off on the Miss

I took a little drive today. There seems to be more open water almost every hour. The areas over at the Mississippi River backwaters that had been still frozen enough to allow ice fishing are done, although I suppose you could stand on docks in some of the marinas. The dike road is almost totally open and I would think a person should be able to open water fish for gills and crappies there. Foster Arend’s looks to be done, and I heard that someone went through the ice there today as well. The shorelines are opening up quickly and fishing from shore should be possible soon.
Looking like a shore fishing weekend coming up!

Sounds like Tyler is having his Saturday event at Silver Lake in the open water. Boy, open water sounds good!

Forcast calls for 59 degrees and some sun both Saturday and Sunday. Friday night and Sunday night call for rain which will help keep the water levels up and help melt some more ice.

Wish the best for Tylers event this weekend. Should be fun with nice weather and open water for everyone who fishes this event.

If all goes well this guy will float the jon boat on Lake Zumbro. Gotta get out and just play. Been a long time since open water it seems. Way tooooooo longggggg.

Wish everyone a GREAT weekend. Enjoy some fishing somewhere if you can and the temps will feel fantastic. Time to get serious about open water fishing as its here in some areas already and very close to being here in others.

Please feel free to share and post about any open water spottings you find. It will help others to be able to get out and enjoy wetting a line.
    Thanks, Bill

I was out today and saw some people shore fishing foster today. I fished silver lake and had minimal success. I did some people catching a few crappies and a couple of perch using crappie minnows. Definately not smacking them though.

Fishermans Inn boat ramp and bay is WIDE OPEN WATER.

Ponderosa ramp canal is open but you won’t get anywhere there yet as from the entrance to the canal through Ryans Bay is still iced up but the ice looks VERY bad. Won’t be long now.
    Thanks, Bill

I drove through Shieldsville area last night on the way home from Leech and things are opening up. I don’t think it’ll be but a couple days before it is navigable. There were wide cracks across Mazaska and the ice was nearly black it was soo thin.
