I would use small plastics below a bobber. I believe CT does this quite often and catches lots of crappies with most being on the small side.

There use to be alot of nice ones years ago. Nate use to fish there and Fosters alot when he was a kid. This time of year, and especially with all this snow and cold, cabin fever really sets in hard. He use to fish the north side and around where the small walking bridges are but that was years ago.
    Thanks, Bill

I was surprised to see a map of Silver Lake on the DNR Map site. I don’t think I could cast quite far enough to hit the “deep” hole.

with this warming trend things should heat up out there at big goose crap lake. Any ideas on where a guy should start. i was thinking about starting by the discharge but i don’t know if i am going to be fighting my line going through geese or not. hate to have a tangle. Any help would be appreciated. ike

A good starting point would be on the south side of the 7th Street Bridge. I’ve been over that way a couple times already and did so-so.

Last year around this time, maybe a little later, CT turned Alex on to a few of his plastics. So he went down to Silver Lake to try them out and came home with a camera full with pictures of crappies. No big ones really but still got a lot. He was fishing somewhere near the Fire Hall I think?

Thanks to Tom’s advise about the Thill floats and the 1/32 oz. jigs with plastics.

If the crappies are not biting you could always try some goose hunting

i hit the foul infested waters and it was ok at best. We hit the water and it was still overcast and thought that would probably hurt us and it did. About 20 minutes before the sun came out we only had one crappie to our names and it had fallen victim to a tadpole spin. After the clouds cleared things began to heat up. Over the next couple hours we didn’t light it up but we had some action. Between three of us we caught about a dozen cpaps and a gill. not too bad. The hot lure of the day was a cappie tom stub grub and a tube. i think over the next couple of days it will only get better with sunshine. Biggest one was about 11 inches. Good luck and post up how it goes.

i will say this in closing we could have zeroed today and it would have been worth it. i couldn’t believe how nice it was to cast in the open water. My bassin partner set the hook the first time like it was a 4 pounder hillarious as he realed in nothing but lips. ike
