Its still winter so I’m going to ask where is your favorite place to ice fish? And why do you like the place that you chose?
    Thanks, Bill

I agree, Red. You have a good shot at a trophy Pike, Crappie, and Walleye. Easily my favorite place to be.

Favorite place to ice fish… where are they biting?

In all reality, I like the Calhoun chain of lakes right in Minneapolis. 3 lakes all very different connected, each with good populations of fish and size structure, and very challenging to fish some days. A person could fish these lakes every day of the year and learn something new about the lakes, or structures. Its like having 30 lakes crammed into 3.

    Only problem, no catfish

Browns Lake, near Richmond. Grew up on the lake, have good knowledge and memories. That’s the first lake I ever fished with Calvin…

Either Red or Red, or maybe Red.I feel like I’m home when I pull on to the lake. Backwaters next. World class fisheries either way and I always appreciate living where I do.

Most people that know me realize that I really like to ice fish – just about anywhere. I’ve been thinking about what place I would call my favorite and really having a difficult time coming up with one, but it finally occured to me that there is one place where I am always warm, where the fish are always large and biting well…..

In my dreams! Sorry, just couldn’t resist.

I’m going to have to say the backwaters between Wabasha and Nelson and then Fosters for a close quick place. But it is pretty hard to beat HOF’s choice [where the fish are biting].
    Thanks, Bill

So Mike does that mean that whenever we see that you have been up in the middle of the night posting on IDA that its because you had ”a nightmare” because the fish you were catching were ”small” ?

Nope, the fish are never small and always bite well. I’ve caught several records! Up in the middle of the night can usually be blamed on eating something I shouldn’t have…

Does that mean that it was your night to cook.
