There were alot of nice lookinh fishing boats at the show. I didn’t to wonder very far as I was pretty much in one area helping out. As always its fun to look at new boats and see the improvements made each year.

Ultracraft boats is a new line Smittys Marine in Lake City is carrying this year. They are very nice lighter weight boats that can easily be pulled with a car or small pickup truck. They are less expensive than the bigger boats but have alot of the same type features. I was very impressed with all the features they had. They are a Misty Harbor boat. Misty Harbor is well known for their top quality line of pontoon boats.

To make a long story short, Brunswick bought Lund and Crestliner and now wants all their dealers to carry their brand only which means Lund and Mercury only. Alot of dealers have chosen to leave. Smittys Marine sells alot of Evinrude E-tecs which are better motor in their design, no service for 3 years required, lower emissions, and lighter weight yet more torque and power. Theres no way they will give up the E-tecs and carry Mercury only. Theres way too much demand for them and Smittys has been a OMC which is BRP dealer for many years. He brought in Alumacraft boats several years ago figuring this would happen and has now also brought in Ultracraft and coming very soon is Yar-Craft for a great tournament style/features fiberglass boat. Check out the Alumacrafts and you will be very surprised at the features and quality. They are equal to the Lund now. They hired a top Lund engineer/designer back in the mid 90s and now have a very high quality boat too. I personally checked them out and now own a Alumacraft 175 Navigator. Great boat, I love the layout, quality, storage and there is so much room in that boat its unreal. If anyone wants to see one Smittys in Lake City has them in stock or I can show you my boat. [this offer goes for everyone]
Thanks, BillJanuary 30, 2007 at 12:44 am #529724I made it out to the show on Saturday…some real nice boats & campers. I wish there were some more tackle representatives there though.

Is this a advertisment for Smitty’s?
I was at the Walleye Searchers booth Friday night and at Smittys all day Saturday and Sunday. Didn’t get any futher except when I walked in and out the door. Glenn said hed watch for the report and thats all I was able to get. Next year please feel free to stop on by and share some bass spots with me and I’ll include your pic in my report. Deal? In fact Tim, I like that idea. Maybe you should talk to the guy who runs these shows about you maybe doing a bass fishing seminar. Nate Cadwell will be doing a walleye seminar next year and the show could use a bass seminar I would think. It needs more serious fishing seminars and that should attract more people.

January 31, 2007 at 1:41 am #530324Looks like we woke up the bassin boys who have been away for awhile AND missed. Welcome back. Play nice though please.
Thanks, BillJanuary 31, 2007 at 7:52 am #530492Bill, was Al’s Marine represented there?
I’m asking because I need a timer delay for my Lund and I heard from a very good source that they will be one of the only Lund dealers in southern MN.
I don’t know how they swung that, but having a Lund dealer IN Rochester is pretty darn nice.
January 31, 2007 at 1:48 pm #530515Als was there. I don’t know if they will be continueing to carry Lund though. Al is, like alot of other dealers, very upset with Brunswick from what he told me at the boat show when he stopped by along with what other people have told me too. I would call Smittys [651-345-3990] first to see if they have one as they are much closer to where you live since you live up by the St. Croix River. By contract Smittys can buy Lund through 2007 if they want to.
Thanks, BillJanuary 31, 2007 at 3:04 pm #530562Brian. Don’t start. I’ll have to show you how to catch them cat’s! Oh! And we don’t use net!
January 31, 2007 at 5:05 pm #530669That wasn’t the message that I got Bill. I figured I better confirm my rumor before I put my foot in my mouth here.
It seems that Al’s is very happy to be selected as the only Lund Dealer in the area. I would be!
Whether you’re a Lund fan or not, having a dealer in Rochester being selected out of all the boat dealers…well, I think means something.
I know they have a Pro Staff. Tim? Do you know how many IDA members are on their staff? Wait, you’re a bass guy…I think? Never mind…
Here I go again…now I’m sounding like an Al’s commercial!
