2007 Kids Ice Fishing Contest

The Rochester 76 Lions Club is once again hosting the annual Kids Fishing Contest at Foster Arend’s Lake in Rochester. The event is Saturday February 10th from 10:00 a.m. – 2 p.m. Entry fee is $6 and registration is on site. Kids need to furnish their own tackle, bait is supplied by Hooked On Fishing, and holes are predrilled. There are prizes awarded in different age categories and the contest is open to all youth age 15 and under, with parental supervision required. Any word on how the contest went? Who and what fish won? I was down along the river dropping off flyers for the LPO and Walleye Searchers sponsored Seminar coming up in March and then went to H & R Block for taxes tonight so haven’t been around to hear anything.

It was a decent turnout. The kids looked to have a great time. I took some photos if you’re interested. The hot air balloon launches were spectacular! Thanks to Mike for the bait.

I think I heard they had 30 kids registered. The morning cold held some people back I’m sure. I had -17F at 7AM at my house. Didn’t see many little kids. Had my son out and some friends with their 2 kids. My boy caught one real pretty colored brookie that weighed .24lbs. Was nice to see the way he handled it with water in the bucket and careful to get it back in the lake. Didn’t make the leader board though.
Was really surprised at the amount of weeds on the north shore area. This was the first time on the lake this winter. Areas I have fished before were solid weeds to the surface. A guy near me drilled a hole and had enough weeds wrapped on the auger that it looked like a bale of hay scattered on the ice after he cleaned it.
