Vehicles being towed at Silver Creek Reservoir

Just a heads up – The cars/trucks parked along county road 11 at Silver Creek are being towed this morning. Apparently there were just too many vehicles and the concern was about causing an accident.
That’s all I know right now.

As well they should. After getting the blizzard we got last night and with snow plows being out on the road, I can’t imagine, what they would be thinking.

What do people expect to happen when they park on the highway areas? I went by Silver Lake Resivor today around noon. There were three cars parked with their wheels on the highway! Wake up! You get what you sew! I do not feel sorry for these people. It kind of borders on people who throw trash in fishing areas. JJ

Whoops! I was writing about Silver Creek Reservoir and not Siver Lake Resevoir!

Drove by there yesterday and found that there is no one parking in the ditch or along the road. There were a couple vehicles parked right at the gate which is well off the road. I have not heard anything new on this parking issue.

Unfortunately all people are doing is making the land owners more angry at anglers which could kill any future chance of it being opened up with parking like KR7 is.
    Thanks, Bill

The anger goes both directions with this one. There is a parking lot right on Silver Creek Road, but it is closed to parking after Jan. 1st. Silver Creek Road is also posted with signs that clearly say no parking. It is a frustrating situation!

Just received word that the area has been posted with no parking signs and tickets are being issued. I don’t know where you would park now?

Are they just trying to keep people off the lake or what?

The township does not want anyone on the lake.

That body of water is suppose to be closed to fishing. It is owned by the township [on their property] and the township and farmers who own the land around the lake don’t want people on their property. Its my understanding that the lake was built on their property as part of the citys flood control project with the understanding that there would be no fishing [use of the lake] aloud. Thats the arrangement the township has with the city/county. So basicly its against the law to park and/or fish there it seems. We are hoping that if fishermen stay off of it the city might be able to change the townships mind and let the city build a parking ramp there and open the lake to fishing. Anyone fishing out there now is just hurting the chances of that happening. In other words-ruinning it for all of us.
    Thanks, Bill

A slight correction Bill – the land was purchased and the lake is on state land. I would expect with all the no parking signs now, this whole thing will probably become a very hot issue. Stayed tuned to “Days of Our Lives!”

By any chance does anyone know if there are X number of feet around the body of water that is state owned land or does the lake go right to the boarders of the land owned by the state? If there is state owned land around the lake then public access should be legal I would think. The answer to this question would change things bigtime either way.
    Thanks, Bill

ps. I never knew that townships had any power in a city. This part is all new to me. But until this gets settled its best we stay away from there as it could be against the law which means cars towed, tickets written or even jail time possibly. Who knows? Best to play it safe.

What amazes me is that some people think that special regulation cannot be applied to state lands/waters. Go to Whitewater on the deer opener and set up camp INSIDE the refuge. Or go hunt some ducks in there on the opening weekend. Go to the same State park on December 1st and try fishing for suckers.

People who try to re-wrie the laws according to their interpretations should be fined, heavily I might add, if they are found inside the confines of that reservoir. If course those who use it are giving the legally obedient angler a big black eye. Maybe we should launch a pictoral campaign and have volunteers go out there with camers instead of tackle and get some mug shots and post them so everyone who stays in compliance can see exactly who it is that is hindering the process of opening this up…..legally.

    From the article:

    Quote:

“The property out there is owned by the South Zumbro Watershed Joint Powers Board, managed by the city of Rochester, so the city of Rochester would have to be the complainant on any enforcement that goes on out there,” said Sheriff Capt. Mark Darnell.

With that info being shared [thanks] does anyone know if there is land ”around” the actural water that is owned by the So. Zumbro Watershed? Also does anyone know if the City of Rochester has a concern for or against people walking on that land to be able to fish there. Also about parking on the side of the road.

Ron [RHW] Do you have any information on this? If not could you please try to get us some answers to the questions? Thanks Bud, I owe you one.
    Thanks, Bill
