Ice thickness at KR7 is 4+ inches and Fishermans Inn has about the same. But some nasty bubbling open water holes. Lots of ’em too. Be very careful if venturing out on the lake near Fishermans Inn.

Talked to a guy who was coming off the ice today and he said Fosters has 4” on the south side. Stay away from the beach area as there is a spring there.
Thanks, Billps. Thanks for the ice report Dan.
ps. Anybody hear anything about Gamehaven?
December 27, 2006 at 2:09 am #515372From talking to several people, I will go out on a limb and say the ice is fairly good in many locations. 4-6 inches seems to be common around Rochester, with the exception being Lake Zumbro which is not considered safe enough to cross just yet. The areas to be very cautious are the normal areas that tend to have thinner ice due to springs or any other reasons. I think using a spud bar to check ice thickness ahead of where you will be walking and not going alone to new areas where no one else is fishing is always a good idea. Be careful and get out to enjoy some ice fishing!
Good Fishing,
MikeDecember 27, 2006 at 2:38 am #515386As of Tuesday morning Chester Woods had a very solid 7-8″+ on the main finger……we found 4-5″ out in the middle……the geese are keeping a pretty large area OPEN by the far south finger/dam area…..I wouldn’t suggest going over there unless you’re draggin a canoe along
Fishing was OK…..we found good numbers after a bit of searching (sunnies and crappies), but only a handful of “Keepers”……One bluegill that went 10” though!!!! Picture’s to follow if Dad sends them to me
had the whole place to ourselves
December 31, 2006 at 2:20 pm #516795Bill, there is still 4 1/2″ or so at KR7. I was out there yesterday afternoon and I measured it. Some of the holes have gotten wider from melting. So an 8″ hole resembles a 10″ now.
The shoreline has melted a bit but it seemed to hold up good throughout this warm spell.
Tip of the day for Kalmar, bring a wagon or wheelbarrow. It’s a haul and a half if your bringing along a lot of gear.
December 31, 2006 at 3:19 pm #516803Thanks Dan. I see you have been out fishin and havin fun. Also hear you will have a pullin bud for next year. Who ever thought we would have this much rain in December. It would of been a ton of snow if the temps were colder though. Jan is almost here so maybe we can gets some colder temps to make some more ice.
Thanks, BillJanuary 2, 2007 at 2:35 pm #517121Bill, I had only 2 1/2″ yesterday at Fosters. Southwest corner. And the top 1/2″ of it is a forzen rain/snow mixture. Milky white.
But the water there is super clean. At least 4 maybe 5 feet of visibilty.
January 2, 2007 at 8:29 pm #517368The south end is usually the thickest area too. Hope this losing ice turns back around VERY soon. We need some good safe ice and need it NOW. Darn Mother Nature wants to goof up my ice fishing. Thanks for the info Dan.
Thanks, BillJanuary 3, 2007 at 12:25 am #517535We tried gettting on Fosters today. There was only about 2.5-3 inches so we decided against it and went to the Country Club Manor Pits. We went on the first one and had 2 to 4 inches of not-so-good ice. We ended up fishing but sat apart from each other. If I had to venture a guess, without a cold snap we will not have ice by next weekend. This winter sucks.

January 3, 2007 at 1:00 am #517558Yes, sure would be nice to get some real cold. I think the nights below freezing this week will maintain the ice that is left. Be careful out there!
Good Fishing,
MikeJanuary 3, 2007 at 4:04 am #517655What I’m hearing so far is 47 for Wed. and 43 for Thurs. BUT only a high of 33 for Sat. with a low of 17 degrees for that night so hopefully we get some more cold and ice can start growing thicker again soon.
Thanks, Bill
