Looks like we finally have some serious cold temps coming early next week. Might be some safe ice within a couple weeks!

So, the big question – where are you going to start ice fishing when the ice gets safe?

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

I knew it wouldn’t be long before looking at all that great ice fishing stuff in your store would take over your mind and you would start being consumed with thoughts of ice fishing. My thoughts haven’t gotten that far yet for ”serious” thoughts of ice fishing. BUT Fosters is always a close place to fish and Gamehaven Reservior sounds good too. But for anyone wanting to get a head start on everyone the Marinas at Wabasha, Lake City and Red Wing offer some safe docks to fish off of with your Vexilar or Marcum flashers, ice fishing rods and small ice fishing jigs with a waxie. In fact some people are already doing that and catching some nice crappies and gills. Sitting on the dock and fishing VERY close to the dock poles is putting action on the ends of their lines. Its a good place to get a head start and a safe way to fish both ”before ice” and ”first ice” times.

Bill, I would love to learn more about the fishing down there. I have been inquiring about the backwater fishing that way for a long time, but if your not related to someone, nobody is talking.

Send me a pm if you have any additional information, I am very interested.

Mike [HOF] and CT [Crappie Tom] have both ice fished this area for many many [gee they are old, ] years. Just keep your eyes on this forum alot this winter and they will share where they are catching them. I don’t ice fish as much as they do but Mike is known to sneak off from work even for just a few hours so hes on ice alot. So you will have no problem getting info on this area for ice fishing. Anytime you plan on coming down this way just pm Mike or myself and I’ll get you some info even if I haven’t been out. Hope you and Sherry and family had a great Thanksgiving.
    Thanks, Bill

Heres a report by Lenny ”Gator Hunter” talking exactly what I memtioned earlier today about the Marina fishing.

    Lennys Report

Be sure and stop by HOF for some waxies and any updates on your way to the Marinas. Please be sure kids have life jackets on as if one would fall off the dock they could very easily drown in the cold water no matter how well they can swim. Always best to be safe and not sorry. Thanks.

    Thanks, Bill

ct.. I understand your safety concerns. I have more respect for river than anything.. they change quickly frozen, or open water. If getting wet is in any way avoidable, I’ll be bone dry somewhere else. I dont take unneccesary chances. If I am not reasonably confident the ice is good in the area I would like to venture in, I wont be there… I dont care how good the bite is. There is always fish biting somewhere else.

I’ll send you an email one day soon.. my email is screwed up, I can recieve but not send at the moment…. and my email address mustchange soon to the cable company buyout.
