Had to have patience today

Mike/HOF and I went up toward Lake City today because we had heard of some mixed reports about the crappie bite being hot.
I won’t say it was slow as much as it was frustrating.
Got lots of bites but they were weird. One single little pop and if you weren’t there, they were gone right now.
Mini-Mites and you had better tip them with a waxie or no dice.
I credit the high winds. Rollers over a foot tall and it was like it was the roller coaster ride was pulling it out before they could get a good hold. That and a large loop in the line because of the wind, hesitated the hook set.
They bite almost like they were mad and attacking more then they were hungry.
Did manage to get one decent meal, three huge crappies and some fair gills.
Now if the weather would settle into its fall pattern, should pick up and improve.

Must have been windier down that way…I was at Evert’s today and there were some slight waves…but when it was time to launch the boat…I looke to the west and said…nope, arm chair fishing tonight.

It’s midnight and just got a sprinkle with a short bit of thunder.

It’s been lightning and thundering like crazy here since 11:30PM. It’s like being at a rock concert with heavy bass as I can feel some of those in my chest. Sure is tough to sleep through that.

Yep, it was a different day to be sure! I had been over to Lake City about a week ago and did fairly well just fishing a jig above the bottom.
Although he is too polite to admit it, Ron really kicked my butt yesterday! I still hurt….

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Ok Ron, this is your time…your chance… your throne to sit on…and brag alittle. Lets hear how you caught your fish. Open ears are waiting to hear…all ears in fact…speak away and we shall listen and learn.

    Thanks, Bill

Nah Bill, I am not so sure I kicked anyones butt and certainly not going to do any bragging. The truth of the matter is, I just got lucky. I casted to apparently a honey hole and Mike wasn’t so lucky. I did have on a different color, I am sure that had something to do with it a little. Oh beleive me there have been days, lots of them Mike out did me big time and he never rubbed it in. Then again there were days we were dead even. It is just nice to have a good friend to share it all with.

I know Ron, I was really referring to you sharing about the hot bite you had going. Not about catching more. Your report was too negative for a hot bite. You are a great panfisherman and need to give yourself a pat on the back once in awhile Bud. In my book both you and Mike are panfishing gerus. I have seen both of you guys in action too many times to think any different.
    Thanks, Bill

Bill, we were fishing over deep rocks. Both fishing about 7 to 9 feet below a bobber. Mini-mites with waxies. I wouldn’t call it a hot bite, rather a consistent bite. As I said, a weird bite. Mike was getting his fair share of bites but I was just a little luckier in the hook set. Pink mini-mite was my choice, Mike tried a couple different colors. One single quick pop and if you timed it right, you could hook up, otherwise, if you were slow at flipping the switch, a swing and a miss.
    It was a fun time.

Thanks Ron. Rumor has it HOF was out on the bait run today so I wonder if he ”sneaked” over there while in Lake City to catch a few crappies.

Well Mike, do you have an updated ”sneak” report for us?
    Thanks, Bill

    Hey Bill,

    No time for sneaking yesterday.

    Good Fishing,

Does that mean you dreamed last night of sneaking?

I’m ready to do a little sneaking, just can’t find the time right now. Hopefully next week will be better.

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Thanks for the report Tom. Never tried a canoe before which is probably good as Dan seems to think I get wet enough already.

The air temps are supoose to be in the 50s starting next Wed. and lows around freezing so the water temps should drop pretty good then. Fall fish feeding frenzie should start kicking in then. The water temps at Lake Zumbro today were at 59 degrees. The water level is still down but I had no problems putting my 16.1/2 ft. boat in at the Ponderosa ramp. Alittle windy but sure felt great to be on the water.
    Thanks, Bill
