I spent late morning and afternoon on Lake Zumbro today and what a beautiful day to be on the water. Sure have to love fall. I had planned to spend the day using my underwater camera to check out different spots but some dummy didn’t connect the positive wire to the battery before charging it so it wasn’t charged. It has a positive connection that you disconnect when not using it and its behind the battery door. So plan B went into effect. That was to try find new areas to fish so the day wasn’t a hot catching day but was a day of learning and fun. The perch were caught dragging a Mini-Mite with a crappie minnow [first time this year using minnows] in deep water while drifting and controling the drift with the trolling motor.

I did hit one of our normal spots to see if any crappies and big gills were still there hanging out. What I found were very finiky gills that were tight to cover. Placement of your Mini-Mite with a waxie under a float had to be very tight to cover or you weren’t bit.

Most of the stripers [whitebass] weren’t caught trolling or casting like I usually do for them. They were caught jigging with [yep, you guessed it ] a Mini-Mite and a splitshot attached 6-10 inches above the jig for extra weight to get it down quicker. A crappie minnow was added to spice up the offering.

Its fall guys. Be sure and get out for some fun fall fishing and enjoy this great fall weather while you can. Its way to early to put the boat away and you have to love those words: FISH ON!!!
    Thanks, Bill
