Well, I got back this weekend from a 5 day Canada fishing trip. It wasn’t lights out fishing, but we stayed plenty busy, ate fish everynight and had a great time. Very relaxing being out on the water all the time. We fished Lac Seul waters in the form of Lost Lake near Hudson,ON. Fished primarily walleyes using a new Crappie Tom Custom rod I had made using St. Croix’s new 6’9″ MLXF Avid Series Blank. Excellent rod. Super sensitive and plenty of backbone for make the hookset. Teamed it up with an Okuma Inspira 20 reel I ordered through Hooked on Fishing. This is the first non-Shimano spin cast reel I’ve bought in quite some time and I came away very impressed. The drag worked to perfection and overall the performance was very smooth.
The walleyes we caught were predominantly in the 15″ range and the pike ran around the 20″ mark for the majority. We didn’t target smallies much at all. We worked 1 shoreline Friday that was smallie friendly structure wise that I pulled a couple out of on a jig and twister. Overall it was a great trip fishing with my dad and a group of 6 other guys.

Nice looking fish. I have been in Canada several times staying at Big Vermillion Lodge just down the road from Hudson. I think I recognize the background in those pics. Is the first one at the narrows by Webster bay? Great place to fish. I haven’t been in a few years since my kids are small, man I miss it. I envy you

Great trip – Thanks for sharing

Mr. Twister, you have a very good memory. We fished that rock wall area heading into Webster. I thought it would hold some smallmouth, but we got nothing but pike there and a few straggling walleyes.
Did you ever fish muskies on Vermilion, Big or Little? I was hoping to make it over there for a bit, but never got a chance to. I also heard its an excellant smallie lake. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to get up there next year.

Not too hard to remember having fished that area a thousand times. Lots of walleye, pike (including a 20 lbs and 18 lbs) and actually big sauger from Webster bay area.

    Where did you stay?

I have fished BIg Vermillion. Lots and lots of small mouth in the evening. Lake trout – if you know where to go (my father does). And Muskie – I fished for once after catching our Lake Trout. I hooked a monster and lost it. My one and only muskie expereince in life. I have seen large ones caught out of there, but you have to know more than I do about it. We always drove to Lac Suel and walleye fished. I have eaten more shore lunches on the islands in Webster bay than I can remember!!
