Chesterwoods Lake is still putting out panfish but they have moved from previous spots that I had found them at due to alot of weeds dying off. A little over a week ago the fishing was dynomite for gills with lots of weeds along shorelines. Couldn’t keep them off the hook it seemed like. This past Saturday the bite was much slower and I had to move around to find them. We ended up further down the lake to find a nice bunch of them along a nice weed edge area usinf Mini-Mites and waxies. Here is my oldest grandaughter Brianna with one of many she caught.

Chesterwoods Lake Update

After making a run [with electric trolling motor] back to the boat ramp so the gals could use the restroom, and noticing that my trolling motor batteries weren’t as charged as I would of liked them [now who forgot to charge them after the last outting, ], I chose not to make the run back down as far as I needed to get back to the ramp someday so we chose to stick closer to the ramp this time. Next time I’ll take more pics earlier at the better spots but I was hoping to be able to work my way down towards some bassy spots that I was headed towards the first time. On the second way partially down I could help notice these two guys doing some bass fishing. Nows theres a great way to get out bassin without having to launch a boat, use up the juice in your trolling motors, [Chesterwoods Park rents paddleboats and canoes] and catch bass too. I waited til they were down a ways so not to give away their spot that they caught four bass from in five minutes.
June 26, 2006 at 12:08 am #456308We talked to a couple guys while out fishing who said they had just caught a good 40 crappies from fishing standing timber and pointed out where. I stopped over there on my way back towards the ramp and dropped a jig down and then it started to thunder so decided to take out before everyone else did. My younger two grandaughters loved playing with some of the waxies so they were very content until the thunder came. Looking for something to do? Need a fishin Fix? Give Chesterwoods a try.
Thanks, Billsbr_itPosts: 217July 1, 2006 at 3:01 am #457677Things were rather slow tonight catching wise. I ended up going by myself as my son fell asleep on the couch before we got a chance to head out. Anyways the weed growth has really come on since I was out last.
I pretty much stuck to bassin the shorelines. Had 1 fish come one a floating rapala. Only a couple other swirls at that. The bulk of my fishing was using a Culprit Pro Frog and a weightless Texas rig. I simply worked it over the shoreline slop weeds. I had a good half dozen to ten blow ups, but only managed 1 fish. I don’t know if the fish were just missing it, I was using too small of a hook, I just messed up on the hookset, or what. Probably a combination of everything. This is pretty new territory for me so I’m sure there was plenty of user error. Oh well, at least it made for exciting times at least.
The Pro Frog really seemed to trigger the fish at least, so I’m hoping to get a chance to try it on the backwater bass. Hopefully with more success.
