Backwaters Report

Got a chance to fish the backwaters today with my friend Tom, and we were not disappointed. We briefly stopped for a bit of shore fishing and first cast Tom hooked up on a Largemouth using a Skitterpop. Second cast in the water and I had one to shore as well. After a few misses and 1 each landed for the both of us things died down a bit and we put the float in the water and continued from there. We continued to target the bass and they continued to cooperate with the topwater. We also got out the plastics and managed fish on a wide variety of presentations.

Since we had the float and didn’t want to limit ourselves to the bass fishing we set out to work the weedlines for some gills. For the most part they were pretty quite, but we did find a pocket that provided some nice gills in the 8″ class.

Overall, I think we ended up catching 5 species of fish: Largemouth, smallmouth, perch, bluegills and pike. All but 1 badly hooked pike that completely engulfed my skitterpop down into its gills were returned to the water. He ended up coming home for an evening meal.

Take into account the multiple near misses we had on the top water it made for an exciting morning on the water despite the change in weather conditions mid morning.

    Here are a couple shots:

Thanks for the report and pics Andy. Sounds like you and Tom had a fun day on the water. Multispieces fishing makes it alot of fun as you never know what may hit your lure.

    Thanks, Bill

How come the perch is more handsome than the fisherman? Thank you Tom for being a good guy after it all JJ
