Looking for some info on the bite at Zumbro. I was looking to get my niece and nephews out for a few hours after work this week. Size does not matter, but action is the ticket. Any information on where to find some action or beds is appreciated.

And as always when out with kids, they get a huge kick out of seeing the fish, as well as getting to cast to them, so close fish are better

    Thanks in advance

The only tip I can offer is to find some trees laying down into the water. The only problem there is with kids casting into the structure you’ll have to get them untangled out of the tree. Then you’ll scare the fish away that are in that spot.

If gills are in your agenda, the try the high banks wit a stub of a crawler on a hook under a bobber set at about three feet. Cast up as close to shore as you can and slowly reel back untill the bobber stands up. Bass and bluegills should cooperate nicely. Good luck!

Another option would be Chesterwoods. The gills were on fire last week. Fish wood and espcially weeds. The water is very clear so you will see where the weeds are out from the shoreline.
    Thanks, Bill

    Bill,

I have never been to Chesterwoods. Where is it and how does a guy get on. I was hoping to get the kids in the boat (17′ Alumacraft with a 50hp) because they always like that. Can I get this boat on there, and if so, where should I start fishing.

Like I said, size doesn’t matter much, as they just want some action.

    Thanks
    Brent

Take hwy 14 east past Chester up to the top of the little hill and on the right side you will see a sign for Chesterwoods. They charge 5.00 for a daily pass or 25.00 for the yearly pass. There are signs showing you where the boat ramp is. Its a concrete ramp. Bring plastics like Mini-Mites and waxies. Real small pieces of a night crawler should work too. Fish along the weeds on the sides of the water and/or cast up real shallow and work it outward slowly from shore. Use a bobber. Its electric trolling motors only on the lake so make sure your battery is fully charged. You can have an outboard motor on your boat but just can’t use it. Mike at HOF carries the Mini-Mites and waxies [buy the tub] and can give you more info too. Have fun and let us know how you do.
    Thanks, Bill

Thanks for the Info Bill. I will definitely check it out. Sounds like a great place for the kids.

I need to get over to HOF and talk to Mike and pick up a few things so I will get the scoop.

    Thanks again,
    Brent

Brent, there also is a swimming beach there too for you and the kids to swim so they will love it.
    Thanks, Bill
