Another one. These fish are thick and strong and alot of fun on light tackle.
May 15, 2006 at 1:48 am #446235With fish this size and thickness it would be a great way to get your kids or neighbor’s kids ”Hooked On Fishing.”
May 15, 2006 at 1:50 am #446236Notice the coloring on this fish. A true a Viking fan with purple in its skin.
May 15, 2006 at 2:16 am #446238The purpose of these Lake Zumbro fishing reports [and other spieces will be featured too] are to bring an awareness of the great fishing opportunities there are around the Rochester, Mn. area. I believe there are something like 14 bodies of water in the Rochester area for fishing and thats alot of water in one area for everyone to enjoy if they become aware of it. We plan to target different fish spieces on different waters and hope you will also get out and fish too. This presents a great opportunty for familys and/or father and son/daughter to get out and do things together. We encourage and look forward to reading about your fishing outtings too as we ALL learn from each other. We are also hoping others who live in different areas will join in the fun of panfishing on light tackle with their kids and spouse or fishing buddy. Its a great way to spend a fun filled relaxing day. Thanks and I hope to see you on the water.
Thanks, BillMay 15, 2006 at 2:25 am #446241Mike [HOF] was using a St. Croix Custom 9 ft. fly rod with a regular style handle to hold a Okuma spinning reel on. The rod was custom made at Hooked On Fishing in Rochester. I was using a St. Croix Avid light action fast tip spinning rod with a Okuma reel and boy did these fish feel good with a big gill fighting on the other end. These rods make a gill feel like a very large fish every time. LOTS OF FUN.
Thanks, BillMay 17, 2006 at 12:42 pm #446983These are from yesterday 5/16/06
Truely PIGS! (and I am talking about the fish! )

Although they are mighty, they are actually mini-mites…. We currently have every color in stock!Good Fishing,
MikeMay 17, 2006 at 12:48 pm #446988RHW and Mike with the dollar they owed me for first, biggest, most and….to stop talking so much….
Well…ok…the last one was true.
May 17, 2006 at 12:52 pm #446991The way they were slamming them…I’m calling them MIGHTY….and I’m sticking to it…
Although I was tipping my mini MITE…(fine…I’m corrected) with a wax worm, between picking on each other…Mike and Ron did just as well with the mini MITE bare.
May 18, 2006 at 12:09 am #447221Thanks to Brian we finally ended up successfully tapping the mother load. Oh we fished the shore lines tight most of the day. Got into a little bay with a big mouth out into the lake. Mike and I were deligently working the shorelines with bobbers set about 3 feet below. Yes, we were catching a “few”. Mike broke off and was retying. He was also running the trolling motor, so while he was distracted we floated a drift out into the open mouth of the bay. Brain deciding not to waste valuable fishing time, starting fishing straight line with no bobber about 3 to 4 feet down. BANG, huge crappie right now. We looked at him like, oh sure, even an old dog gets a bone once in awhile. We continue bobber fishing and Brain still straight lining. BANG again, he connects. OK, OK, so after he catching five BIG crappies in a row, we finally decided he had something going. We took off the bobbers, fished just like Brian. BINGO, BANGO, BING. One nice sized crappie and then the big gills, right after another.
Thanks Brian for showing us how it it done. So like when can you guide again????????May 18, 2006 at 12:50 am #447228Nice fish guys. Some very nice pigs is right.
Lets see if I have this right: Brian catches his fish mistake.
The Mini Mites in the back room must be the hot ones in HOF’s tackle box.
They are called MIGHTY MITES because they catch.
Does this mean Brian quit the catfish scene and is chasing bullgills and big Crappies? Thanks, Bill

Everyone needs a little luck and by some unlikely circumstances we found a big school of nice fish.
There are no secret colors of mini-mites, but there is every color available on the glass case counter in the store.
I would tell Brian not to quit his day job, but – oh well… It seems he did put Ron and I on some nice fish. Just don’t tell anyone! ]Good Fishing,
MikeMay 18, 2006 at 2:37 am #447251Briank, a crappie guide! Where do I sign up. Cats & crappies on the Zumbro, Double header
May 18, 2006 at 12:26 pm #447295Actually…I’m giving up cat guiding….
Mike, you know that new rod that Mike built for me???
It casts like a dream as I used it for the first time last night… it’s first fish was a 29″ x 18″…10 plus pound walleye. It’s going to be an awesome channel cat rod!
Thanks again!

May 18, 2006 at 2:25 pm #447336How does that saying go again???……”Every blind nut finds a fish once and a while”……or something like that?
Well yep….looks like you guys found em.
after 2 hours on the river yesterday morning……I some how got drawn all the way back up hwy 14 and found myself back on the mighty Zumbro by noon …….Results you ask…..VERY similar to Brians NUT (keep your head out of the gutter boys )……plenty of action, but only scattered crappies along the shorelines…..but boy when we found em, HOLD ON!!!!
since everyone and their brother was anchored up along the high banks hiding from the gale force winds, we took a little adventure out into the teeth of the blow…….found a pod of fish hangin in about 4ft of water, but off shore quite a ways……we actually threw the anchor out right on shore, and casted out……it was 30-40 mins of as fast as you could reel them in
May 18, 2006 at 5:02 pm #447411Jake? Did you get any northerns? RHW couldn’t keep’em off the hook!
Heck…even Mike got into that action…
I, on the other hand…am a professional pan fisherman.
