    Lake Zumbro:
As you can see by the pictures in some of my other reports, the fishing has been very good. The shorelines and bays are producing some nice crappies and bluegills. The fish are more shallow in the afternoon on sunny days, deeper in the morning. Small jigs like mini-mites tipped with a waxie or minnows should produce fish.

    Foster Arend Lake:
Fishing has been very good some days! Some real nice trout are being caught. Minnows, powerbait, waxies on small jigs, small spinners, small rapalas are worth trying.

    Chester Woods:
The fishing has been improving. Try minnows or small jigs tipped with a waxie for crappies and gills.

    Willow Creek:
Try fishing 4-8 ft. below a bobber with worms or waxies for gills.

    Country Club Manor pits:
As the water is warming, the fishing is picking up. Try minnows or waxies.

    Boy Scout (Gamehaven) Lake:
Some gills and crappies are being caught as the water warms. Try small jigs tipped with a waxie under a bobber about 2-3 ft.

    Mississippi backwaters:
Some areas are starting to produce nice crappies and bluegills. Northerns are also being caught in a few areas. The water level is still high and some areas have too much current to be able to fish well. Try finding areas without much current that warm up quickly.

Remember to stop by Hooked On Fishing for all your fishing needs. We have some great specials on quality rod & reel combinations! You will find a great selection of live bait including nightcrawlers, baby nightcrawlers, leaf worms, red worms, minnows, leeches, and waxies. There is also a great selection of tackle to meet all your fishing needs. HOF is Rochester’s fishing headquarters!

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Thanks for the update Mike The Zumbro has been very good lately. Those bull gills have been especially fun in the shallows…..can’t wait for the crappie to turn on

I have a new method to post about how to catch northerns on Lake zumbro.

I was out fishing there last night and there was some guys fishing with HOTDOGS, yes you read it right, hotdogs, they got 5 northerns and 1 musky on hotdogs

so dont forget your hotdogs next time your heading out to Lake Zumbro

Too bad northern opener isn’t until May 13th. I wonder if you can catch panfish on a hotdog.

Thanks for the area update Mike. Got a chance to do Zumbro this morning with my good friend Tom. The wind played major havoc, but we were able to still find some fish. As you mentioned the fish are deep in the morning hours. Most came in on Culprit Paddletails, but also had some on mini mites and flicktails as well. Probably had the presentation about 5-6′ under a #2 Thill.
    Here’s another picture to add:

    See everyone on Saturday.

    Dan,

Yea as we were heading out Tom says” Usually I see Dan going into work as I’m coming out.” Sure enough shortly down the road I think we saw you going by.
