I’m planning to be there again. For those attending remember, that Chesterwoods has a 15″ size limit on all largemouth bass. Anything less than that needs to be returned to the water immediately. Not sure on the legality issue, but given the predominant size of the bass in Chesterwoods, maybe we could go with a measurement photo prior to being released by the fisherman in the boat.

Dan, I wish I could help you with targeting the larger bass. Once I figure it out I will let you know as I have no problem catching the 8-12″ sizes. My usual method has been working shorelines twitching a floating rapala, but this weekend I just got in some new plastics, so I’m hoping I can change things up.

I’m planning to be there. The Post Bulletin had a little article about this last Thursday, so we may have some new people as well!

Hope to see you all there!

    Good Fishing,

I’m going to do my best to catch a Chesterwoods legal bass tomorrow. Got 3 rods set up and ready to go for bass. After I catch my 9 1/2″ bluegill right away, it will be bass time.

Careful not to look back Mike, as I plan to take back the lead you took from me last outing.

Let’s see, I can get 20 points tonight? Should be an interesting night of fishing! Don’t forget to have your trolling battery charged up. Got to be back at the dock before 8:30. See you all tonight and good luck to everyone!

    Good Fishing,

Just finished with the 4th outing. I must say that there was not a bunch of different species, with no legal bass or catfish – BUT – the size of the bluegills was huge!

    Bluegill:
    1st – tie – Dan Theim and Desiree Bohulano – 10 1/8 inches.
    3rd – Andy Wilhorn – 10 inches.

    Crappie:
    1st – Alex Thorn – 10 3/4 inches
    2nd – Fernando Bohulano – 10 1/2 inches
    3rd – Dan Theim – 9 inches

    Point leaders for this week:
Tie – Dan Theim and Alex Thorn – 5 points
    Desiree Bohulano – 4 points
    Fernando Bohulano – 3 points
    Andy Wilhorn – 1 point

    Point standings after 4 events:
    Alex Thorn 16 1/2 points
    Mike Smith 15 points
    Andy Wilhorn 14 points
    Dan Theim 12 points
    Ron Weltzin 7 points
    Evan McNeilus 5 points
    Desiree Bohulano 4 points
    Fernando Bohulano 3 points
    Mike McNeilus 3 points
    Tyler Holm 1/2 point

Thanks to everyone who attended! Next event is in 2 weeks at Lake Zumbro.

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

I’ll say it once again I simply can not believe the quality of the bluegill fishery in Chesterwoods. A few years ago, you would never see fish like this caught out of there and to have 3 10″ class fish caught in one evening. All I can say is WOW!!
HEre is Dan and I with ours.

Heres Desiree with some nice fish. Next to the bass you will find a bluegill. Thats right, that fish that looks like crappie size is a bluegill.

Once again Mike Thank You for keeping up with the standings.

Last nights trip was a GREAT time. Alex and I never even got far from the ramp. We were catching fish right off the bat. As we slipped along the shoreline we found bass, crappie, and gills. But the bigger fish were deeper. After we took of the floats, we found out what we were doing wrong. The only problem was the little fish would attack the bait before it could get down.

Thanks to all who attended. Even you “frog-man”. Sorry Bill.

After discussing this with several of the people that have been involved in this series, we have decided that the final 2 events of this series will be held at Lake Zumbro. Although Chester Woods is an excellent fishery with some of the largest bluegills to be caught in this area, it is also electric motors only – which means that a lot of time is used up by trying to motor from one place to another.

So, the last 2 events will be at Lake Zumbro.

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Just a reminder…..this Thursday, 5:00 at Ponderosa. I’ll be bringing that kid who’s in first place. Watch out though, just like a long distance runner, now is when the afterburners come on and I move to the front of the pack. How’s that for smack talk? I should be okay unless Desiree the Bluegill Hunter shows up. Then all bets are off.

So, Tyler…..side bets again or what?

Side bets are on, you bet. (Get it… bet…).

With the days getting longer, what are the chances we could extend the fishing time till 9:00? Could we take a vote? I vote 9:00 as the fising seems to pickup a little later in the evening. I’m fine either way, but I’m always looking for ways to extend my time on the water!

Sounds like that would be okay I guess. Maybe the next series of events we could try that idea.

On another side note. If and I do mean if, I catch a hog bass and want to get it measured before weigh in, can I do that. I worry too much about fish staying alive in the well. I would like to release the fish sooner than weigh in time if possible.

I’m OK with measuring and releasing a big bass. I suppose it should be witnessed and verified by someone as well.

8:30 is still the end time for this first series.

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Hey Dan, how long do you think you can keep Mike tied up with measuring that big bass while everyone is fishing?

    Thanks, Bill

I don’t know Bill, I guess I’d have to catch one first. Then worry about that later.

Are you going to grace us with your presence out there Bill?
