As I was with my LX3, I am more then pleased with my new LX5. The LX3 is an excellent unit for the money. Sharp, clear, sensative and very dependable. Anyone who has an LX3 can feel very confidant. OK, so what is the difference between the 3 and 5 other then price. The LX3 is a nicely equipped Mercedes and the LX5 is a loaded Mercedes. The 5 has a couple more features then the 3 is all. Those that I like are first, the dual beam transducer. You can switch from a 20 to an 8 degree cone. This is especially nice in deep water. Then there is the signal interferenc rejection system. The LX3 has 6 selections and the 5 has a dozen.
I found the 6 to work just fine. Then there is the superfine line feature in the 5. This feature allows you to improve target separation to 3/4 of an inch allowing you to use the full screen feature. Both the 3 and 5 have a superior zoom feature allowing you to concentrate in either five foot or ten foot increments anywhere in the water column from the surface all the way to the bottom. So in the end, the difference between the 3 and 5, a couple more bucks for a couple more features. The kid in me made me upgrade cause I like toys.
