Lake Zumbro was slow today

Lake Zumbro is a great fishery, but today the fish did not want to bite. Ron (RHW) and I went to highbanks, the barn area, and near Fisherman’s Inn. We marked lots of fish!!! Very few of them got talked into biting! Tried several different lures, fished from 26 FOW to 8 FOW, fished near the bottom and even 6 ft. off the bottom. Guess that’s why it’s called fishing? We did ice 3 gills, 3 perch, and several small shiners. The shiners were thick at times and real pests!

The ice at the ramps is not looking good any more. With warmer temps and rain predicted for the next few days, we might have driven on the ice for the last time this season.

Be careful if you decide to go out!

    Good Fishing,

    Mike

Thanks for the report Bud. Don’t know about you but I am getting VERY anxious for open water, warmer temps and some days and evenings at Lake Zumbro chasing crappies. And throw in some bullgills and also bass once that season opens and FUN FUN FUN. Even plan on some cat fishin too. Any excuse I can come up with to get on the water. Fishermans Inn will open up before the Ponderosa so does anyone know for sure what the ramp charge will be? I thought it was $4.00 but not positive as I usually put in at Ponderosa but I just can’t wait that long and Sandy Point is so shallow. I suppose my jon boat would work there maybe. Anyways, wheres open water and spring?
    Thanks, Bill

Always wondered if there were any fish in Mill Pond when we have driven by to run over and see relatives in Austin. What can you catch out of there? Crappies and Gills? Any decent size to them?
Yes Zumbro was not too productive. Shad kept pestering and stealing out waxies. Tick, tick on the spring bobber, only to come up empty. Could catch a few only to be disappointed at it not being a crappie or gill. Doug was also out there running around on his four wheeler. He must have checked out a dozen places. He worked it hard. Managed to get about a half of dozen gills. Now with the predicted weather forecast, I am afraid the icefishing season maybe coming to a close end. Lots of open water in the main channel down by Fisherman’s Inn. Access at Grandpa Ed’s is done for the season. Pondarosa will open with quickly with highs in the 40’s and the predicted rain. Time to dig out the open water gear and get ready.

You know Doug its Rons fault that the warm temps and rain are here to melt the ice because he bought that new LX5. Ron will need to get himself a new boat to enjoy during the retirement years when he retires and mount that LX5 on that for open water times. He can have his cake and eat it too by using his new toy [LX5] all year that way. Thanks Ron, I’m looking very much forward to open water coming.
    Thanks, Bill
