Mike Smith [HOF] and I spent a couple of hours on Lake Zumbro this afternoon and could of been singing ”where o where have the little fishys gone” song [ ] with our backs turned to be facing the cold wind. [sorry Mike, couldn’t resist that one]

Mike got stuck working today so we only had a couple [ 2 ] hours of fishing to get in so we were hoping to get into some perch today but mother nature decided it was to be a very humbling experience instead. One thing you can count on when it comes to reports and update on IDA is that you get the honest true facts. And that goes even on the not so hot days too.

The winds were blowing our direction so we had to have our backs towards the wind, the temps were low, and the fish didn’t want to copoperate. I was fishing with waxies for bait and Mike had some minnows on. He was the one who caught our only fish in the two hours we fished. It was an 8” perch. I missed a couple, lost what felt to be a very nice fish as my line wouldn’t reel up any further due to frozen water/ice on it in the cold wind which gave slack and the fish was gone. Very few fish were marked either. Yet it was fun to be out together on the ice in hopes of getting into a few perch.

We can’t always pick our days, weather, and whether the fish will cooperate or not, but its still fun to be out on the water/ice with friends and try catch a few fish. Still beats sitting home anyday.

Mike and Briank from the site will be out there tomorrow [Monday] hoping to change our luck. They should have many more hours and be able to drill alot more holes and hopefully locate some biters. I took a few pics hoping to have a good report to put up but will go ahead and post a few pics anyway as, lets face it, not every day is a great day on the water/ice but in my book its still great being on the water/ice.

    Thanks, Bill

HOF and the only fish caught today. Way to go Mike as we didn’t get skunked. Well…ok, at least YOU didn’t get skunked.

The area we chose to fish was that far out from the vehicles. We were in 8-10 ft of water.

Notice the open water [channel] past behind the point on the other side.

I questioned if we shouldn’t of been over there against the shore was there was open water fishing with bobbers for crappies. [ah, open water fishing, please come soon]

We had a foot of ice where we were fishing as we were tucked around behind the point across the lake from the open water shoreline where the channel runs through that part of the lake.

    Here fishy fishy fishies.

I stopped there for half hour and a buddy caught one gill before getting a phone call saying lets go out to highbanks,
so we picked up an went out there with not much luck either.

I did do alright Sat morning down at the dam with a school of perch. I believe the fish took Sunday off also.

I don’t mind being skunked once in a while…but if HOF starts singing ANYTHING…I’m off to the golf course!

Don’t forget your PINK golfballs then. Serious, you guys should have better luck as alot more time to fish and move around to find the fish plus you will be covering more territory in the area we were fishing. By the way, remember all those bass fishing baitcasters you had Mike Fischer make you at HOF that you called catfishing rods so people wouldn’t know you were really a bassman at heart. Well you can leave them at home cause you guys will be chasing perch, gills and crappies today. Go get em Roland, I mean Brian. Show em how Mike.
    Thanks, Bill
