The ”Boy Scouts Ice Team” was on Willow Creek Reservior today catching sunfish in the sun and having a fun time doing so. This young man [in the first pic] was a very ”hot stik ice angler” today.

I met Mike from Hooked On Fishing and RHW at the landing and then drilled a bunch of holes before they got there so they could start fishing right away once they were on the ice. With all the fishing pressure a few more holes were added which seemed to be the best holes for fish. The depths everyone caught fish at ranged from 7ft to 17ft. Some of the fish were tight to the bottom so keeping the jig just above bottom worked well. At times the fish would rise above bottom so raising the jig up to the fish caught fish. This is where a good quality flasher like a Vexilar or Marcum flasher comes in real handy.

Sunfish were the target for the day and the Scouts went right to the holes to catch some fish. Jigs with waxies were the techniques used to ice some fish. Jumping from hole to hole with the Vexilars and Marcums and raising or lowering your bait to the fish worked great. Just wish we had more flashers to go around for all the kids. They sure helped to catch them.

As always the fishing time goes by so fast and I wish they could of stayed ALOT longer as it was alot of fun fishing with them. Thanks guys for coming and All of us older guys sure look forward to doing this again. Next time please allow alot more time as you boys were sure alot of fun to fish with. Thanks for a great fun day. And I want to say Thanks to all who helped out. It was real nice meeting everyone.
    Thanks, Bill

Thanks Dave. This is my first year helping with this but sure would like to do alot more. Its alot of fun seeing them catch fish. Next time I will not forget my map so we can get these guys on fish quicker [took 15 minutes for the first guy to catch a fish ] as we had some anxious ice fishermen who were there to do business with the fish. . I drilled alot of holes [gas auger] and the depths varried in order to find the fish but my map would of helped more. Fishing off of the big flat on the drop from 7ft to 17ft worked the best for catching fish. Alot of fish were tight to structure and a few were moving around up off of the bottom. Sure makes a guy love his Vexilar flasher. Wearing the HT Safety Treads over your boots sure made for better traction on the ice. And they only cost around $8.00 and more than worth the money.
    Thanks, Bill
