I know exactly what you mean. Half of me wants to go ice fishing and the other half of me wants to hit the Mississippi River for eyes. For now, at least for this moment , I’m going to stick with ice fishing as its not out of my system yet. The thoughts of everything thats going through my mind concerning what all I want to do in open water fishing this year will just have to stay in my mind as its ice fishin time now. Thanks, Bill
Seriously, although this rain isn’t good for much at this time of the year – it is way better than a foot of snow. At least the water on the ice will freeze quickly and we can get on with making ice. A deep blanket of snow would be bad news for making ice! So, the rain is almost through this area and the temps will get below freezing tonight and then into the teens starting Sunday night – sounds to me like good ice ahead. I think we need to go ice fishing D!
HOF has definitely got the right attitude. As far as ice fishing goes, this rain was the best alternative. A few degrees colder this A.M. and we could all be without power right now or worse yet,a foot of snow on top of some tricky ice. I found 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of standing water on the ice today(not fishing unfortunately). I wasn’t able to break through the ice with the heavy frost bar at willow creek reservoir. A week ago I could pound through pretty quickly. At least now you can see some of the tricky spots and it will get a chance to refreeze and start making new. Snow on the ice would have made for a dangerous season at this point. I took a couple shots of the ice lakes. We are still going to be fine around here as long as YOU DON’T LEAVE YOUR SPUD AT HOME! This shot is WC reservoir.
