I have heard that a person fell through the ice yesterday on Foster Arends Lake. He reportedly got out ok. He was reportedly fishing a deep water area on the lake that he supposedly had been fishing at several times before this happened. I would assume that with this heavy snow we received that day that the ice couldn’t handle the weight plus the warmer temps. I would personally advise people staying off of the ice on Fosters and other bodies of water in the area for awhile until conditions stablize and the ice has had alot more time to thicken. This heavy 7.1 inches of snow we received which was a record snow fall and with the warmer temps can really hurt the ice conditions in the area. Its best to wait and be safe.
    Thanks, Bill

The ice is not totally safe ever. The same thing happens almost every year. When the ice is thin, we all need to use extreme caution. My bet is that this person was probably away from the shoreline on ice that was not thick before the snow, although it may have been good enough – and then with the added weight of the snow, it lost the ability to hold up a person???
    Play it safe!
