    Hey Bill,

I know better than to believe that as I know Mike Fischer HATES COLD and with all that ice it would be FREEZING in your store.

Atleast you probably got some ice. New forecast is for only 2-4 inches after midnight. AND with it being snow it means the temps are too warm right now so its raining and not snowing. Now Wed will be colder but the snow will tamper off. If we have to get that bad three letter word [ice] then lets get good thick ice so its safe and then alittle snow.

Sure would love to be able to uncover the jon boat for some open water fishin. Am being babysat by my 5 year old grandson this weekend so I need warm weather to stick around for awhile if you know what I mean. [how about til April? lol]
    Thanks, Bill

You better be careful Mike [Mike Smith] as Mike Fischer might buy that much ice from your store and make sure you are under all of it for sure. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

Mike Fischer, I don’t think Mike S. likes us anymore.

Think maybe RHW would like to try out his new unit to see if he can find Mike S. under all that ice that you dumped on him?

I’m not worried. Mike Fischer probably won’t even come out of his house today because it’s so cold (making ice!)

The puddles are frozen this morning. Supposed to get down to 6 degrees tonight! Won’t be long now!

It may get up to 40 for a couple hours, but will be close to freezing or below freezing for most of the time. I suppose AZ time can’t come soon enough for you Mr. Fischer? Just remember, you can’t walk on water in the desert!

How do you two ever work in the same store together? Ok, how does Mike Fischer work in the same store with a guy that just sits around and talks fishin with people who come in. AND then has the nerve to sneak off and go fishin whenever he wants to. Gee, some people sure have the good life I tell ya.
    Thanks, Bill

Well guys, after yesterday, last night and today, don’t tell me ice isn’t just around the corner. I am predicting ice fishing for some as early as next weekend. Wilcox probably will be the first place. Days are shorter and nights are longer. Look at those predicted night time lows. That one warm day they are predicting, Sunday, probably won’t get that warm and it is too late, the water has taken on that winter chill. Time for me to dump my ice fishing bucket out onto the family room floor and sort thru it all. Yes, I am the owner of a new MarCum LX3, three color flasher. I have polished it so many times, that the paint is starting to rub off. I am anxious to see if it is indeed as good as they promote. After I use it a couple times, will post my impressions and observations. Those darn Vex’s are hard to beat, we will just wait and see.

As Ron indicated, he is thinking of starting the ice fishing season at Wilcox.
Some other possibilities include Mosemans (sometimes called Mosemers or the cattle pasture) near Alma, the finger lakes, the dike road, the Wabasha or Red Wing harbors. As you can see, these spots tend to be shallow water and freeze up earlier than many other areas.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for first ice fishing?

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

How about right next to my desk as it was freezing there today.

Look forward to Ron’s report on the Marcum unit. I bought a Vex I believe about a year ago which hasn’t had much use yet so need to get out on the ice too. BUT I’m, chicken if you like , to go out on thin ice. It needs to be thicker than that for this guy. If you guys keep talkin this way I might just have to put my dream of anopther open water trip to Lake Zumbro for crappies aside and start getting the ice fishing stuff out. Need to get that new heater I bought a year ago to work though. I must be doing something wrong. I’ll have to take another look at it.

Mike, what exactly is Mosemans? A pond?

    Thanks, Bill

A backwater area of the Mississippi, South of Alma. All the areas I mentioned except the harbors are backwater areas. They are usually the first areas to ice fish because they are shallow, have no current, and freeze up earliest.

    Mike

Mike, what are the water depths in the areas that you mentioned in the parts that you fish?
    Thanks, Bill

Most of the areas I mentioned are less than 5 ft. There are a few spots with deeper water, but I don’t go there until I know the ice is thicker.

    Mike

Well it looks like Mike [HOF] got his wish-cold temps [=ice] AND snow that is staying [winter]. Would of preferred just the cold for making good solid hard ice before the snow comes. But when the man who has a beard [HOF] stands outside when its snowing he will soon look like Santa [white beard] and Santa is someone you can’t argue with or expect no presents under the tree for you. Here that Mike Fischer? – Almost time for you to go ice fishin.
    Thanks, Bill
