Lake Zumbro Fishing Update

Mike [HOF] Smith and I spent some time on Lake Zumbro today doing some multispieces fishing and found that the fish are more scattered but will bite if the presentation is slow enough. We again were using Mini-Mites tipped with a waxie and as usual when taking the bait out of the fishes mouth they would pass up the waxie to try hang on to the tail of the Mini-Mite. That tail is just so lively they act like they have to have it. The fish are on the bottom and occassionally maybe one foot off the bottom will catch them but in most cases you have to be on the bottom to catch them. After the first tap [ist tap of two] you must set the hook right away in order to catch them. If you wait until the second tap its too late and you will miss them. Fish caught were bluegill, some bullgills, couple of crappies and lots of strippers. It was a great day to be on the water with warm temps, some sun, and if you stayed out of the wind it was warm. Be sure and stop out to HOF and pick up some Mini-Mites and waxies on your way out to the lake. And be sure and let us know how you do.
    Thanks, Bill

Got out on Zumbro for a couple hours this afternoon. Had the pleasure of fishing with Pastor Bruce! We found the fish to be very deep – 20-25 ft. and close to the bottom. Mini-mites tipped with a waxie was again the best producer. We caught several crappies, some nice gills, and a few large white bass.
With the continued nice weather, the opportunity is still available to get out for some hot fall fishing. The fish are still biting!

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Thanks for taking Bruce out Mike. Sure was GREAT to see him again. Hes one of the nicest guys a person could ever meet. They just don’t make them like him anymore. And a fishing Pastor too. Doesn’t get any better than that. We need to get him out there next spring for the HOT spring crappie bite. I bought some more Mini-Mites while I was at the store before closing. Can never have enought of a hot lure you know. And so many colors too so I won’t be caught without the right one. Thanks for the report.
    Thanks, Bill

Anybody been out on Lake Zumbro lately? I was down on the Mississippi River last weekend so haven’t been down there for a couple weeks. And NO Mike I’m sure there isn’t any ice yet. Speaking of ice, Mike at HOF has his store stocked with ice fishing goodies for your upcoming ice fishing season.

By the way Mike, when are your winter hours starting so you get a whole day off to go fishing?

    Thanks, Bill

Yep, we are looking good with lots of ice fishing stuff! Need ice jigs? We have the largest selection to be found in this area, more than 20,000 in stock!

Just wondering if anyone was able to get out fishing on Lake Zumbro before the very recent iceing in of the boat ramps? Can’t wait till next year to get back on there. But until that time its backwaters and Foster Arends Lake ice fishing once the ice gets made and is safe.
    Thanks, Bill
