Got out fishing on Lake Zumbro today. The fishing has been great the past few weeks, but it actually seems to have gotten better. Both bluegills and crappies were in the mood to eat small jigs. Caught lots of bluegills up to 9 inches and lots of crappies up to an amazing 14 inches!
Tried 3 different areas of the lake and every one had nice fish. Fished mostly around 6-8 ft. no matter the depth of the water, but did get some fish as shallow as 3 ft. Mini-mite jigs, tipped with a waxie worked very well. The best color today was purple. The water was slightly stained, but not bad at all. The level was about normal.
It was a great day to be out! The best news is that the fishing should continue to be good, and if possible get even better as the water continues to cool. There is still plenty of time to get out and enjoy the great fishing!

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Thanks for the report. . Was down at the Mississippi River both Saturday and today [Sunday] so I missed being down there. If I could only fish two places at once. Maybe we will get real lucky and have great weather this coming Sunday so I can get four of my grandkids out there as ”they are watching me” from Walleye Searchers weighin Sat till Sunday night. Very glad to hear the bite is still great. This body of water is so close to home and when its hot its hot. Did RHW get out with you? Still got alot of plastics and waxies?
    Thanks, Bill

    Hey Bill,

Ron had to work Sat. I went with a fellow named Rick. I’ve just restocked some of the plastics including mini-mites, so have a good supply as well a fresh supply of waxies.

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Well no. I just forgot to order it! If you need anything when we go, I’ll let you pick through my tackle.

How about ordering my Mini-Mites. You aren’t afraid I might catch more than you if I have my Mini-Mites are you? Did Ron get his last order or are they in your tackle box too???
    Thanks, Bill

Ron and I made a trip to Zumbro again today. Lots of rain and lots of fish! Flick tails and mini-mites tipped with a waxie were the baits of choice today. We got some real nice crappies early before the rain started, but once it started raining we didn’t get many more crappies. The big bluegills were willing to continue biting in the rain though! The largest gill today was just about 10 inches, and we got numbers of chunky gills over 8 inches.
The biggest difference today was that most of the fish were shallower – in the 3-4 ft. range.
It was still a great day to be out fishing – even in the rain!

    Good Fishing,
    Mike

Thanks for the report Bud. When you say shallower, are you talking in 3-4 ft in depth of water or 3-4 ft down under a bobber in deeper water? Sounds like lots of fun.
    Thanks, Bill

Mostly in 3-4 ft. of water. We also fished some deeper water that had fish at the 3-4 ft. level.

    Good Fishing,
    Mike
